NBL Round 3 Preview & Betting Tips
Sydney Kings vs Perth Wildcats
Sunday 4pm AEDT, October 15th, Qudos Bank Arena
Off to a promising start to their back-to-back championship defence, the Sydney Kings have shown they’re still a force to be reckoned with in NBL24. They enter Sunday afternoon’s game with a 3-1 record which currently has them sitting in second spot in the standings.
The Kings have already played once in Round 3, with their first game coming against the Bullets at Nissan Arena on Friday night. They dominated that matchup from start to finish, recording a wire-to-wire 11-point win.
Import and former MVP Jaylen Adams hasn’t taken long to find some of his best form early in the season. He was superb against the Bullets on Friday night with 26 points on highly-efficient shooting. Also providing some firepower on offence is Next Star Alex Toohey who continues to impress.
Elsewhere, the Perth Wildcats wouldn’t be entirely satisfied with the start they’ve made to this season. They’ve traded wins with losses in their opening four games and head into Sunday’s matchup with the Kings in seventh position in the standings with a 2-2 record.
This is also the Wildcats second game of Round 3. Their first came against United on Friday night when they were defeated by seven points despite having home court advantage.
The Wildcats have only played on the road once so far in NBL24 and that resulted in a loss to the Phoenix in Round 1. They gave up 110 points in that clash and will be hoping for far greater efficiency on the defensive end when they take on the Kings who have some of the best offensive weapons in the competition.
Match prediction: This is a relatively hard matchup to gauge early in the season due to the fact that both clubs had major roster turnover in the off-season. However, from what we’ve seen to date I think it’s fair to assume both teams will be there abouts when push comes to shove in a couple of months’ time.
The bookies have priced the Kings as the short favourites for this Sunday afternoon battle, trading at around $1.50 at most agencies. I believe that price is a touch disrespectful to the Wildcats who have looked fantastic at times in the small sample size. I believe the odds should be closer to 50-50 and with that in mind, I’m keen to be on the Wildcats to cover the spread here.
