Fresh off their Asia Cup triumph, India went 1-0 in the three-match series against Australia with a comfortable five-wicket win in Mohali. Having slumped to a losing streak that spans four matches, will the Aussies be able to resurrect some momentum in the second game in Indore?
We bring you our preview ansdbetting tips for the second ODI below!
India vs Australia 2nd ODI Preview & Betting Tips
Holkar Cricket Stadium, Sunday 24th September, 6:00pm (AEST)
India
Despite sporting a weakened line-up on Friday, India comfortably accounted for Australia with a five-wicket victory, set up by the two opening batsmen.
After bowling the visitors out for 276 (Shami 5-51), Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill put a massive dent in the chase with a 142-run opening stand, with the two openers scoring 71 and 74, respectively.
Despite a 3-9 mini collapse, the home side steadied to pass the meagre total with eight balls remaining, KL Rahul (58) and Suryakumar Yadav (50) showing their experience to put the result beyond doubt.
Superstars Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel will all sit out a second match as the squad is primed for the World Cup, but the first match demonstrated that India’s second-string options are more than capable of performing on the big stage.
As such, expect a similar XI to be selected for the game in Indore.
India Predicted XI: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj
Australia
Australia’s ODI slump continued in Mohali, with the team falling to a fourth successive loss having been bowled out on every occasion.
Despite a bright start from David Warner (52 off 53), no other batsman topped 50 as the travelling side scratched its way to 276 at a ground where 320 is the historical par.
The batting woes were compounded by rusty returns from Steve Smith and Cameron Green, who both managed starts (41 and 31, respectively) but struck at under 70, slowing Australia’s momentum during a critical period. Both men are likely to be important cogs in the World Cup XI, so it is pivotal that they find form in the remaining two matches of this series.
Given the lacklustre nature of recent performances, I expect more changes to be made for this second match, although it is always difficult to pick which way the selectors will go in these preparation-focused games.
Australia Predicted XI: David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey, Marcus Stoinis, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa
Betting Tips
India will head into this match 1-0 up in the series despite showing vulnerability at times. I believe Australia shot themselves in the foot several times throughout the first match and could have quite easily put themselves in a winning position. As such, I’m going to double down on my previous prediction and back the visitors to level the series up with an improved batting performance on one of the smallest grounds in world cricket.
Player Prop Quick Tips
Century in Match - Yes ($1.62 at Ladbrokes) – As previously mentioned, Holkar Stadium has some of the shortest boundaries in world cricket, contributing to high scores. While no batsman managed a century in the opening encounter, five players passed 50 and at least one should be able to capitalise on Sunday.
