Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday March 17th

March 16th 2021, 7:26pm, By: Billy Bestford

Horse Racing Betting Tips

It’s the Wednesday before the Golden Slipper which means we need to find some winners to line the pockets before Saturday. Luckily there is another cracking day of midweek races at Sandown and Randwick-Kensington to dive into so let’s see if we can find a few. Looks as if rain may play a big part in the Randwick meeting especially so that is something to consider.

If you're looking for full race-by-race analysis including odds comparisons, betting tools and tips for every race, then head to our dedicated horse racing site at www.racingbet.com.au.

Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday March 17th

Sandown Race 2

One of the more intriguing runners of the day lines up for his first Victorian start and I am keen to have something on. Ex Tony Gollan trained (1) Baby Boomer brings some top line QLD form down south and now joins the strong Lindsay Smith yard where he has been jumping out well in the lead up to this local debut. Boasts a narrow 0.1L 2nd to The Odyssey last year which tells us there is enough talent to think he can measure up in a race like this. Think it will pay to wait and see what the market does closer to the jump and any support will be a huge positive. Top apprentice Lachy Neindorff will ride to offset the big weight and I think this horse can make a massive impact in his first race down in Victoria.

(1) Baby Boomer

$4.60

Randwick Race 5

Thinking that the Godolphin-trained (7) Flexible can bounce back after a forgivable run last start where she started favourite in a similar race to this today. Once again she is at the top of the market but the $3+ today is a lot more enticing. Clearly enjoys the sting out of the ground and I think by this time of the day Rachel King will be able to get this horse to the outside and find the better part of the track to sprint over the top of them. This horse has only had the 5 career starts and there is still plenty of upside to come. Looks to be a hot speed in this race and I am hoping from barrier 7 we will see this horse get the last shot at the on pacers.

(7) Flexible

$3.30

Sandown Race 4

Keen to back another horse returning from a spell here in (5) Shandy. This horse really found her feet last preparation stringing together 3 straight wins and moving through her grades nicely before she was last seen tackling a Group 3 behind the likes of Orderofthegarter, Chapada and Steel Prince. Kicked off last prep with a 2L win over 1300m so the 1400m looks a perfect way to start her campaign. Draws well in gate 3, gets the services of Damian Lane and we are getting $3.50+ which looks more than fair. This is a strong midweek bm84 however with the likes of (1) Mystery Shot being extremely hard to beat. Happy to take him on at the price and Shandy looks the one to give this a shake.

(5) Shandy

$3.60

Sandown Race 5

Will be having something each-way on a horse that looks over the odds in this bm70 over the 1400m. (5) Frankie Two Angels showed enough first up to think he can run well again here. The slight rise to 1400m suits and he has some strong form in much better quality races than this. Was caught wide in that fresh run around Moonee Valley and should enjoy a much nicer run throughout today from barrier 7. Trainer Dennis Pagan obviously has an opinion of the horse throwing him into some deep races last prep and I think he can show some massive improvements 2nd up today.

(5) Frankie Two Angels E/W

$17/$4.40

Randwick Race 8

One of the toughest and most open races of the day but I have to have something on a lightly-raced Filly from the John O’shea yard. (12) All Hallows’ Eve was a good thing beat fresh two starts ago before making amends in dominant fashion last start in a Class 1 at Newcastle. Will need to measure up to city grade today but looks a horse with massive potential and will be interested to see what the market does with her late on. The $6 on offer at the moment is tempting enough. Barrier 14 is a little query but this horse has shown she has a great turn of foot and can hopefully get the last shot at them down the outside fence or can weave a passage through the field. No issues with the wet track and am keen to round out the day with her on top.

(12) All Hallows' Eve

$5.50
