The quality midweek racing continues this Wednesday with strong meetings at both Randwick-Kensington and Sandown to get stuck in to. We again get to see some classy horses going around during the working week and you can’t ask for much more than that. Hopefully I’ve found a few winners to fill the pockets before Saturday!

Horse Racing Tips - Wednesday, March 10th
Randwick Race 1
Very interesting race to kick the day off at Randwick and I am keen to have something on (6) Yangtze Rapids. Have always thought this horse has shown decent ability but just wasn’t able to put it all together last preparation. He now heads into this prep first up with no public trials after being gelded and I think you need to take notice when Chris Waller does something like that. Think the ultimate gear change will have a hugely positive effect on him. I like the fact McDonald rides who knows the horse quite well and his previous best performances have all been first up. No public trials is interesting so I think it will pay to watch for any market support as they near jump time. Looks a very strong maiden on paper however and am wary of the early favourite in (2) Jojo Was A Man. This horse has looked the part in two trials, the most recent in behind Wild Ruler so you can expect him to run well.
Randwick Race 4
Don’t mind the look of the Godolphin-trained (5) Raoul in this maiden over the 1150m. Again there are a few interesting runners lining up in the field but I think this horse has the strongest formlines of the raced brigade. The last-start 2nd behind Kalashnikov now looks extremely strong after that horse came out and won the Black Opal on Sunday in Canberra. He hit the line well in that last race over 1100m and the small step up to 1150m looks apositive if anything. He draws perfectly in gate 6 and gets the services of Rachel King who is flying lately. Deserves to break his maiden today after 3 minor placing from 3 starts and looks a strong chance to do that here. As mentioned there are a number of interesting runners and could make a case for a few of them but I am happy to back the horse with the runs on the board and the $4.50+ on offer looks more than fair.
Randwick Race 5
Have been keen to follow (5) Vowmaster since his first-up fail in a strong Saturday race a couple of weeks ago. He didn’t handle the heavy track at all while absolutely nothing went right for him in the run, caught wide and racing keen throughout. He started an odds-on chance there against some much stronger horses than he faces today and the key now will be getting back on top of the ground. There is a chance of some rain so monitor this in terms of the race but if it’s anything better than a soft 7 (which I think it will be) I am keen to play. His debut preparation showed the ability he has and I just can’t shake those performances from my head. Have always had a strong opinion of him and I think he will go on to win bigger and better races after today. The query runners of the race are the kiwi pair of (3) Tinker Mcphee and (4) Matchmaker. There will be plenty of eyes on these two who bring strong NZ form across the ditch and make their local debuts for Chris Waller. Both horses have trialled well and will make a decent race of it. Happy to stick with the local favourite however and hoping we can get better than even money near race time.
Sandown Race 5
Tricky little Class 1 over 1300m but I’m keen to side with the lightly-raced (9) Seguso who looks to have plenty of improvement still to come after a strong maiden win a couple of weeks ago. He let down strongly after getting shuffled back to pip the leader on the line and it was one of the more impressive wins on the day. We’ll also get a direct form line reference in the first race today with Apres La Mer the horse he happened to run down last start so it will be worth noting how it goes earlier in the day. Draws well in barrier 5 and Frosty Lane takes the ride so I am hoping he can race a touch closer to the speed here and peel off them as they enter the straight. The jump up to 1300m is ideal and looks a good play in another interesting race.
Sandown Race 8
We’ll have to wait all day but my best bet comes up here in the last race at Sandown. I’m still having nightmares when I hear this horse’s name but (2) Garvoc will be going extremely close here. Comes into this off a strong barrier trial in a bm70 at the Valley when having absolutely no luck and bolting in behind them. Draws barrier 4 today and if she can leave the gates with them it will go a long way to winning this race. Can make her own luck up on speed while one of the best apprentices going around in Campbell Rawiller jumps aboard to offset the big weight. The drop back in grade is an obvious plus while and I am hoping she can repay the faith today by sticking with her here. (1) Rathlin the main danger who also brings some much stronger form in but will have to carry 60kg even after the claim.
