Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, September 8th
Scone Race 1 (Market)
We have a $1.70 favourite in the form of (1) Banju here but I’m going to oppose him and side with (8) Temple One instead. He represents Paul Messara who has a freakish strike rate at Scone, and jockey Christian Reith has four winners and a 2nd from six rides for the stable. He resumes from a spell today with two trials under the belt, he draws well in barrier 2, and back on him home deck I expect him to give this favourite a very good run for his money.
Scone Race 4 (Market)
(1) Anakin Skywalker resumed with a decent effort at Newcastle over 1400m, beaten 1.7L into 5th by La Tigresa. That was just his second career start and he comes up against a field that has had plenty of chances. Trainer John Sargent has only had 12 runners here at Scone in the past 12 months, but from those he’s had five winners and five placings, while Andrew Gibbons has four winners from seven rides for Sargent. Everything lines up for him to win this. (12) Sweet Anna is a runner to watch and isn't hopeless. This is much easier than what she's raced against this prep and she gets the blinkers applied for the first time.
(10) Anakin SKywalker
$2.30
Queanbeyan Race 4 (Market)
(1) Eaglehawk has never won first up before, but he did go close last preparation when he ran 2nd over this track and distance. His next two runs at this track resulted in 6.2L and 5.4L victories, so clearly he has an affinity with the track. His only other career win came in a Forbes maiden when he scrambled in by a nose. Kayla Nisbet is booked for the ride and from the good draw today might be the day he’s able to crack it for a win first up from a spell.
Mackay Race 8 (Market)
Ricky Vale is always a trainer to look out for when they race at Mackay. He strikes at 30% over the past 12 months. His only runner today is (4) Meatball here in the last race of the day. He resumed with a 4th placing over 1300m here at Mackay and today steps up to 1560m second up. He should improve with that fresh run under his belt, Ashley Butler keeps the ride and last time he raced over this track and distance, he won by 2L. Looks a good each way bet in an open race at $9.50.
