Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, May 19th
Kembla Grange Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Contalmaison resumed off a 27-week break at Newcastle 10 days ago, he hadn't shown much at the trials and was very big odds first-up. Most probably thought that the 900m would be too short, he was only fairly away and settled worse than mid-field. He was still a mile back off them when straightening, was bumped early in the straight and ran on hard over the top for a solid win. He produced the best overall sectionals of the race, steps up in trip here today to the 1000m and should settle closer form the good draw. He looks to have come back well.
Kembla Grange Race 2 - (Market)
Chris Waller saddles up (5) Oconee for the second tip of the day at Kembla, a maiden over the mile. The son of Sacred Falls has had two starts, he was held-up momentarily on debut at Newcastle before running on hard to just miss the placings. He then stepped up to 1500m three weeks ago at Hawkesbury on a slow track, he was slowly away and settled last off the fence. He got to the middle of the track and ran on hard, producing the best last 400m of the race to get into second without ever looking the winner. Chad Lever sticks with the ride and getting out ot the mile looks ideal on the bigger track here at Kembla.
Moe Race 3 - (Market)
The trainer of the moment John Sadler (if you haven't seen the gag he and Olly had after the last on Saturday in the mounting yard, google it) trains (11) To Her Door in am maiden for the girls over 6 furlongs. The daughter of Adelaide made her debut at Bendigo in a harder maiden than this 16 days ago and was easy in the betting, drifting from $2.90 out to an SP of $3.70. She settled handy, improved to third on the turn and although she kept coming in the straight into second beaten half a length, she did have every chance. I like the jockey change with McNeil taking over from Mick Dee, she gets out to the 1200m which looks to suit. She has the wide draw to overcome but I wouldn’t surprise me if they push forward early and look for cover behind the leaders.
Moe Race 4 - (Market)
(6) Resolute Lad was scratched on Sunday for this where he looked a great winning chance at Bendigo. He has had two starts, his debut at Sale was on a sift track and he looked to have a lot to learn after racing green all the way up the straight. He then went to Sandown on the Hillside track and had his first look at a real heavy track, again he settled mid-field and motored home to miss by under a length. A couple of horses that finished around him that day have run well since, Gettysburg Address and Arctic Wolf came out and quinelled a Bendigo maiden Sunday, interestingly a different race than what Resolute Lad was to go around in. He goes from 1300m to a mile here third-up at his first prep, I doubt he will be racing around in this class next start.
