Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, March 3rd
Ballarat Race 2 - (Market)
(9) Sword of Mercy is the second most experienced horse in the field, still a maiden after 11 starts but has placed at more than half of them. She did a lot of her racing on the synthetic tracks through the Winter before having seven months prior to resuming at Werribee. She resumed on a soft track two weeks ago, she was solid enough in the betting starting around the 5/1 quote. She was slowly away and over-raced just off-mid-field, was checked off heels before the turn before angling wider. She ran on hard into third only beaten just under a length and looks suited getting out in trip. She should be settling a lot closer in the run. (10) Imsouane was also in that race and was well favoured on debut, she also got back and hit the line well but feel that she will be giving away the tactical advantage early to Sword Of Mercy here.
Ballarat Race 4 - (Market)
(8) Night Passage is resuming, the Tony McEvoy filly had three starts at her first prep before going to the paddock. She sat on the speed on debut up the straight and wasn’t beaten far, placed at Swan Hill as favourite and then went to a Listed race at Flemington and ran on well against the pattern. Rubisaki was runner-up in that race, she has come out and won three straight since resuming including the rich 3Yo Inglis race in Sydney recently. Night Passage has the wide draw to overcome but will get back anyway, she has trialed well and will appreciate the big track here. Look for her late.
Kembla Grange Race 7 - (Market)
(1) Baracus is a Snowden trained filly that took a while to hit her straps, but has seemed to turned the corner this prep. She won her maiden at Yarra Valley fresh leading all the way by 5 lengths with another 5 back to third horse, she then obviously had an issue second-up at Pakenham. She was very heavily backed late but was the first horse beaten after racing on the speed. She came north to Canberra last start and was very easy in the betting, she led again, kicked early in the straight and never looked like getting run down. She does get out to the mile for the first time on the bigger track here, if she can get a soft lead, she should be able to run it out and they will struggle to run her down.
Grafton Race 2 - (Market)
Those that backed (1) Holiday In Dubai on debut here a couple of weeks ago may well be feeling sick still, she arguably should not still be a maiden. She was mid-field on the rails in the run, got onto heels on a couple of occasions when approaching the turn. She got clear just before the furlong pole and was running n well but was very green, costing herself a maiden win on debut in the process. She clearly has a lot of talent and interestingly there have been no gear changes, she draws to get a soft run again, let’s hope she can go straight this time!
