Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, March 17th
Cranbourne Race 1 - (Market)
Obviously there are plenty of unknowns here but I was happy enough with the debut of (7) Gunmetal Girl to suggest that barring any huge money for the unraced brigade, she can be winning this. She had trialed well with a jump-out win at Flemington prior to going to the races. The Snowden trained filly was turned out for start number one at Bendigo three weeks ago, she was solid enough in the betting around the each-way quote. She sat up on the speed but was three-wide no cover throughout. She stuck on ok to just miss a place, the race has proven a good enough form reference with the winner coming out and bolting in at the Valley on Friday night. Respect any serious money for those on debut.
Hawkesbury Race 6 - (Market)
(3) Destiny’s Son has only been to the races twice, he debuted here at the track on a heavy surface back in June last year. He led but was the first beaten, he was slow to recover according to the steward’s report. He was sent to the paddock and given plenty of time, off the scene for 35 weeks and four official trials later he resumed at Newcastle on the inner track. Again he was on a heavy surface, led them on the fence before kicking in the straight and never looked like getting run down. He does have to step out of maiden grade and goes from 1150m – 1400m, but he should get an uncontested lead and handles the conditions. Go again at the 100m mark if he gets it soft through the first two furlongs.
Mackay Race 5 - (Market)
John Manzelman saddles up 10 of the 12 runners in this! (6) Gingersnap looks the best of them as she should be the leader. She was at Townsville last start against a couple of these and led all the way and never really looked like getting run down. It can pay to watch the betting with these races when he has the majority of the field. Hopefully she kicks through and if there is no pressure can lead, or if there is she has the ability to take a sit. (3) Inquiry is one of two runners that is not from the Manzelman yard, he was formerly trained by Cody Morgan at Tamworth and now comes north for his first start with a new yard. He had a good record down south and has won fresh previously, the money will tell the story with him.
