(3) Parliament is by far the most inexperienced of the 11 horses lining up for the open handicap. He is facing the starter for just the tenth time in his career, aiming for win number five. He went through the grades nicely last prep winning four of five, all four of them had a similar characteristic of getting the soft sit on the leaders backs and accelerating early in the straight. Drawn three here with the 59.5kg, this is no doubt his toughest test, her maps to be a little further back but the speed looks genuine enough on paper. He is fresh but is yet to miss a placing from three previous fresh runs, he hasn’t been seen at the official trial but expect him to be ready to go. He won out to 2000m last campaign so he may find them a bit nippy, he will need a genuine tempo and he will keep coming. If they walk early and turn it into a sit-sprint affair, they will be too quick for him over this trip. The last time he was here at the track he bolted in over a mile, he ticks a lot of boxes, just need the tempo to suit and he looks a great each-way bet to nothing.

There are many factors that most pundits will want to be taking on (3) Dezzy here today. He is a 7YO gelding that did not debut until a late season 6YO, he is coming out of maiden grade, he has the 17 gate, was big odds to win his maiden and is an on-pace runner stepping up from the 1400m to the mile. But, what cancelled all those out for me was the ease with which he won that maiden. He obviously had some issues early on not to debut until he was a 6YO, but he had shown some ability and he has the added advantage of tactical speed. Kayla Nisbet should ride him positively as they did last start at Wagga, get him up outside the lead and hopefully kick on the turn. He bolted in to secure that first win, had to do it tough and certainly loses nothing with the sting out of the ground, probably the opposite. I expect him to be a drifter in the betting so wait until closer to start time, he just may have the confidence now after that dominant maiden win.

(12) Such A Drama Queen is lining up for start 8 in her career and looking for win number one in this set weights maiden over 1500m. She has had two runs back this prep after a very long spell, both of them here on the synthetic track. The first she was very one paced when sitting outside the speed but kept chasing to the line and looked like she needed further. Last time, she again sat up outside the speed, was out-kicked when they sprinted but chased steadily to place again but without ever looking the winner. The key here is that both those runs were over 1200m, jumping up in trip she won’t find her opposition as sharp and hopefully won’t get left flat-footed as she did over the six furlongs. Teo Nugent is a star in the making, he is a positive rider and I expect him to be pushing on looking for the front. Experience and results are key here on the synthetic track, although she has been well beaten, she clearly handles it and the step up in trip is the difference maker today.

(3) Burlington Miss looks the best of the day anywhere, she is a 3YO filly taking on the older horses here but looks to have a stack more upside. She won her maiden back early in the year and was sent to the paddock, she resumed at Pakenham on the synthetic surface after 5 months on the sidelines. Settling mid-field, she was held-up at a vital stage for at least a furlong, eventually easing wider on the track and ran on strongly. She gets the extra 200m here, the inside gate should be no issue for Kah as she steps up in trip, she had shown tactical speed last prep. Her maiden win was at 1500m so the trip is no issue, she will just need an ounce of luck off the inside when the runs come, if Kah can get her to be on the speed, double down in the run.
