Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, May 30th
Gosford Race 1
The set weight maiden to start things off at Gosford looks to be open on paper, but I think we can use the speed map and the way the Gosford track plays to our advantage here. (1) Dark Comedy has good tactical speed and is drawn wide. From the 1200m start at Gosford it is a good 700m run to the first and only turn, the jock should have plenty of time to balance up and go forward and lead or be outside the leader. If you can control the tempo at Gosford and kick into the straight, it makes you awfully hard to run down. His main two rivals, although suited by the small field, will get back, and with the tactical advantage, he should be kick to a winning margin at the furlong pole.
Gosford Race 4
Like the first tip, we are stepping into a 1200m race where the speed map is crucial. There looks to be a stack of speed in this, up to four runners could be looking for the top and that will set it up for one camped just off the pace. (6) Green Reign has only been to the races twice, a win on debut north of the border then resumed as a beaten favourite in a Highway at Rosehill a fortnight ago. He got back on that occasion and ran on well, gets the addition of the blinkers for the first time and should be camped right behind the hot speed. The Matt Dunn stable must be respected and nobody rides the track better than local boy Tim Clark.
Ballarat Race 1
(9) Rose Angel is a 3YO Filly taking on mostly the older horses here resuming. She debuted three months ago at Yarra Valley, sat three-deep on the pace without cover and stuck on well after a torrid run. She was sent straight to the paddock and has trialed brilliantly in preparation for this. She jumped well at Tatura two weeks ago, led, kicked hard about 5 lengths clear into the straight and was not pushed out over the last furlong and eased down to win by 3 officially. She was clearly the quickest trial winner on the morning with thirteen trials over the trip, she looks ready to go. The Ballarat synthetic track has played very well since opening, drawn in the middle of the line she should roll forward and either be outside the leader or with cover one-wide.
Ballarat Race 5
(4) That Song resumed on the synthetic track at Pakenham three weeks ago, he seemed to have every chance in the run when runner-up. He was mid-field before saving ground, ran up and hit the lead at the furlong before being gunned down late. The winner of that race has since come out and placed up in grade and a horse that finished out of the placings has come out and won since. The form looks to have held-up well out of that race, he placed at his only other second-up run. He maps to be mid-field and with that synthetic track run under his belt, he should be finishing as good as any.
Ballarat Race 8
A very open race on paper, those playing the Quaddie have a couple of options, but I would suggest you have 1 combo where you stand out (3) Clean Acheeva in the last leg. She is fresh today off a 2-month break, although she has not won first-up previously but has placed at three of five. She was last seen at the Valley in a BM70 and was well backed into an each-way quote, settled well back and ran on hard. There have been 5 subsequent winners out of that race, sure it was two months ago but it has really held-up well. There are a couple of question marks in that she is having her first go on the synthetic track and will be giving them a start, but at the likely double figure odds back against the girls she looks a great each-way bet.
