Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, May 14th
Wyong Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Timon Stinger has had one career start and is officially with a new trainer today off a 20-week break. His debut was on the Beaumont track at Newcastle back just before Christmas following some good trials. He was very solid in the betting and after opening favourite, was crunched into even money when the gates crashed back. He showed good speed, sat outside the leader but was the first beaten. He was very green and featured in the steward’s report with heat stress. He was sent straight to the paddock and has had one trial at his home track. He began well and led, was pressured throughout and although the outside horse looked to be gong easier in the straight, I liked the way he responded once he balanced up. A replay of that trial can be found here. He should be up on the speed for a long way and assuming he handles the track, should be hard to run down.
Wyong Race 2 - (Market)
(6) Ballistic Lover debuted at Kembla in December and stuck on well after a tough run against the babies before being sent to the paddock. She resumed on the Kenso track in a $100K 2YO race off a couple of good trials. She settled worse than mid-field, saved ground along the inside and made good ground before being steadied late. She officially ran fourth and was only beaten 0.7 lengths in what was a very nice return to the races. She has to take on the older horses here but should be able to settle closer and looks to have plenty of upside. There will be stiff opposition at the top of the betting from (4) Great News but am happy to be right against her. The Kim Waugh trained filly placed at her first two runs before going to the paddock, her trial reads well on paper behind Miss Fabulass but the time wasn’t super and she looked to hang pretty badly in the straight. Barrier blanket on, ear muffs pre-race and the inside gate, no thanks.
(6) Ballistic Lover
$1.90
Moruya Race 1 - (Market)
(10) Wilful Soul is a 6-start maiden who is a now a 5YO, she had almost 2 years off the scene before resuming at the Sapphire Coast last start over 900m. She sat mid-field, quickened from the turn and loomed up to win but just found one too quick on the day after giving it a start. She as beaten under a length and more than 2 back to third, it clearly looked like the long break took its toll late. With that run under her belt, she should be hitting the line hard. Don’t worry about the wide draw, there is only one turn to navigate when she will be making her run.
Pakenham Synthetic Race 3 - (Market)
(1) A Lone Hero failed to place at his first three starts, in fact he really failed to fire much at all. He was sent to the paddock and resumed here on a heavy 8 on the grass two weeks ago. He was easy in the betting after starting in single figures and SP’ing at $14 and settled last in the run. He was held-up for 100m early in the straight, once he balanced up he really hit the line well and was only beaten the narrowest of margins with 3.5 lengths back to third. It's no doubt in my mind he should have won the race. He really looks to have come back a much-improved horse.
