After a profitable day last Thursday, we're back with another four tips this Thursday, March 21st. We've targeted two races at Newcastle and one each at Albury and Donald.
All three tracks are rated a Good 4. Check out our selections below!
Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, March 21st
NEWCASTLE RACE 2
Hibiscus Lady is taking on the older horses here after a couple of crushing wins to start this campaign. She won her maiden on a heavy track fresh, she shared the lead on the fence and although she was a little bit all over the shop, she was string through the line. She went back to the 900m here last time, was just off the speed and wide, got outside the leader before accelerating like a good horse and bolting in. At the time of writing (Tuesday lunchtime) the track is rated good but with the rain around it is hard to see it not being downgraded. She should have no problem stepping up in grade, will be on the speed and handles the wet. She ticks a lot of boxes.
NEWCASTLE RACE 5
There can obviously be a lot of improvement in some of these juveniles from start-to-start, but there doesn’t appear to be any superstars in this lot from what we have seen so far. Bullet Fly has been to the races twice, he ran on well at Warwick Farm on debut at big odds, then came here a fortnight ago and settled a lot closer. He was outside the leader at the top of the straight before taking the lead, he was no match for the impressive winner late but stuck on ok. He gets Tommy Berry taking the ride today, he is one of the best in the business when riding up in the speed, from the good draw he should be hard to run down.
ALBURY RACE 2
Class 1 and Maiden Plate races can usually be narrowed right down by eliminating the maidens (usually) and backing horses with upside. Voodoo Queen fits this profile perfectly, she did take six runs to break her maiden but she did it in style last time. She was getting out to the 2000m for the first time two starts back, she settled on the speed before peaking late in a race that has been a good form reference. She then went to Cranbourne with that one 2000m run under her bel, after getting held-up at a vital stage she eventually cut back to the inside and ran out the 2000m strong. The stablemate On Our Honour may be the danger, but with that win under her belt, Voodoo Queen may have turned the corner and gets the good claim.
DONALD RACE 1
Socialising had the two starts at her first prep as a 2YO, debuted at Caulfield in a $300k race where she was never in it but found the line really well, then went to the Bool over the carnival and was slowly away again, lost ground and was a little flat footed on the slow track before running on well late to place, the margin to the winner under a length. She has been off the scene since then so may have had some issues, but a recent jump-out at Camperdown was encouraging. She jumped a lot better with the blinkers on (which she will wear for the first time at the races), camped behind the leaders and although she was really pushed out over the last furlong, accelerated well and looks ready to go first-up in a race that looks to lack depth, assuming there are no stars amongst the un-raced brigade.
