Horse Racing Tips: Thursday, February 6th
Grafton Race 5 - (Market)
(6) Flying Pretty has only won the 1 race from 21 starts but has been very consistent throughout this prep. Three starts back at the Gold Coast in a harder race, she got back in the run before hitting the line hard to miss by a half-length in a race that has proven a good form reference and it was more advantageous to be on the speed. She looked a little flat Coffs the next start but did make some ground late without ever looking likely. She was then hre at Grafton last start, trapped wide early the jockey decided to press on. She hit the front early in the straight before being run down late. There was a margin to third and she did well to stick on as she did after the early burn. Back to the mile looks ideal as does the 3 gate.
Grafton Race 6 - (Market)
(14) Vampirina Diamond is going to start deep in the red here and looks the winner off recent efforts, but that will allow us to look for some value in the big odds on offer for the other two placings. (6) Italian Tune has not exactly set the world on fire at two career starts, beaten almost 10 lengths on debut at Coffs Harbour and then more than 6 lengths here at Grafton last time. That first start he was slowly away, hampered and had to be steadied a couple of times early. He then got out to the 1400m last time and although he didn’t show any brilliance, he got home ok suggesting he would want further. He gets out to the 1700m today and has the inside draw, he will do no work and should settle closer. Ridden for luck, currently around the $5 mark for a place, he should be improving.
(6) Italian Tune to place
$5.00

Kilmore Race 1 - (Market)
There are no prices available at the time of writing so I am not sure just how short (4) torched is going to be. The son of Zoustar debuted in Sydney back in December of 2018 in a very handy race, had a soft run and weakened late but was slow to recover and featured in the steward’s report. He was sent to the paddock, had the big chop and was gelded. He has obviously had some issues being off the track for so long but the Hawkes team has stuck with him. He has had two recent jump-outs, I liked the latest one at Flemington where he placed third officially. He wasn’t well away, but was pushed through between runners to chase a runaway leader and really extended nicely. There were some smart sprinters in the jump-out including multiple G2 placed Zoutori, he was eased down late and although beaten a long way (as they all were), he showed good acceleration when asked. A replay of the jump-out (trial 4) can be found here.
Pakenham Race 1 - (Market)
(9) Unhinched was runner-up at Bendigo before being sent to the paddock, she the resumed at big odds at Flemington up the straight a couple of weeks ago. She settled a couple of lengths back along the inside, kept coming late and was crowded for a run for most of the last furlong. She comes back around a bend here in what looks an easier race, Melham sticks with the ride and looks to have plenty of upside. It looks a tricky race as I am keen to take on the likely favourite (3) Baaqyah. She was good at her first two runs then had 7 weeks off and was only plain at the Valley I thought. Couldn’t be having her as short as she is. There are a few others that could be big improvers, if laying is your thing, she looks the one.
