Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, March 29th
Nowra Race 3 - (Market)
(5) Corcra is first-up, he was beautifully ridden to win his maiden two starts back at Canberra by a big margin, he then went to Orange in his first go out of that grade and was beaten at a very short quote. He did have every chance that day and was sent to the paddock. He has had two trials leading into this, the latest was at Hawkesbury earlier in the week. He pinged the lids and landed on the bunny, controlled the race in front and when a horse ranged up alongside him in the straight, he responded well and won comfortably. The margin was only just under a length but it was more than 8 back to the third horse in what was clearly the quickest of the 1000m trials that day. A replay of that trial (trial 7) can be found here. The wet track looks the only issue and with his early tactical speed, the jock should have the option to lead or take a sit. I expect that he will be very well backed and can’t see him starting in the black.
Nowra Race 5 - (Market)
(2) Nowyounomi is a Gai/Bott trained gelding that won his maiden at Hawkesbury when resuming last start. He over-raced badly through the majority of the race, sat up outside the speed and although he was very green up the straight, was much too good at a very short price. He does have to step up from the 1300m to the mile but he was out further than that at his first prep. He gets the blinkers on and should be very hard to run down. Always happy to take on maidens in these Maiden/Class 1 races.
Sale Race 3 - (Market)
(5) Old Head went around on Friday night at Pakenham (was a good thing beaten and will be winning wherever it goes next start) so there will be deductions if betting early. (15)Tideway looks a good each-way bet on debut presuming the deductions won’t leave her place price under evens. The Maher/Eustace trained daughter of Helmet has only had the one jump-out at Camperdown back earlier this month. She jumped well and assumed control, railed well into the straight and was never let down. She was very professional and didn’t seem to run about hard against the rail, they could have won the trial easily had they shown more urgency, she was only run down in the last strides. A replay of that jump-out (heat 8) can be found here.
Sale Race 6 - (Market)
(6) Bellarine Beauty resumed at Kilmore at the back-end of February at career start number three, she was drawn wide and carved over early to lead and never looked like getting run down. The margin was more than three lengths and the horse that ran second that day has since come out and won his maiden in good style since. She then had her first go out of maiden grade at Kilmore again just under three weeks ago, sat up outside the speed as a very short-priced favourite but just raced a little flat. She was still ok through the line into second, she has the horrible draw today but I think they will be positive early. Against the girls, I think she can sit off the track on the speed and still keep bobbing late into a place.
