Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, March 1st.
We round out the weekend and start the new month with a big day of country racing in Australia. Luke Krahe has run his eye over the meetings at Mudgee, Armidale and Colac and highlighted his best bets below!
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, March 1st
Mudgee Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Bad Boy For Love has had two runs back this campaign and has been well beaten at both starts. He resumed at Bathurst and was last before making some ground late in a race where it was favourable to be up on the speed. He then went to Dubbo in the preview of the Country Chaps qualifier, a much harder race than this. Again he got a mile back but was very flat second-up. He goes from 1300m to the mile here which certainly looks to benefit and should get a soft run on the rails from the draw. Although he has been well beaten at those two runs this prep, he should improve sharply.

Mudgee Race 7 - (Market)
The feature of the day at Mudgee is the Country Champs Qualifier with the big Grand Final in town in a few weeks. (4) Healing Hands has won 4 of 6 in his short career, the lightly raced 5YO has won both runs this prep. He resumed at Bathurst in a BM66 and was beautifully ridden behind the leaders, eased around them at the top of the straight and quickened nicely to score. He then went to Dubbo for the lead-up to this and was a well supported favourite. He settled further back along the rails, got back to the inside when the cutaway presented and hit the line well. The barrier looks a little tricky here but Greg Ryan has been around the traps long enough to give this a shake, if he gets cover he will finish best.
Armidale Race 7 - (Market)
The Armidale Cup is the big one on the card, Paul Perry sends (5) Nothing Too Hard north in what has been a very long prep. He had five weeks of before racing at home at Newcastle two starts back, he got well back and wide in the run and ran on hard into second without really looking the winner. He then went to the Quirindi Cup last start and was well supported at double figure odds. He was stuck three-wide without cover throughout and after looking in trouble early in the straight after a tough run, he found plenty and hit the line well to score. It was an enormous run after sitting parked in the breeze Mikayla Weir retains the ride and this looks no harder.

Colac Race 4 - (Market)
(3) Heavenly Bridges gets the blinkers on for the first time, she looks well in coming back to a BM58 at the 1000m. Three starts back she led all the way for a comfortable win at 64 grade at Cranbourne. She then went to the Valley in a much harder 78 grade race against the girls, she led again but went too quick and was well beaten in a race where it was favourable to be running on. Last start she went to the Bool and was a well backed favourite, she led again and was run down late. Back in this grade with the claim again, she looks well in and will be very hard to run down. Anything in black figures looks a steal.
