Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, February 23rd
Ballarat Race 2 - (Market)
(5) Red Rossini has only had the one start. She debuted at Geelong back in the Spring, just into double figures with the satchel swingers. She sat up outside the speed, took over at the top of the lane before getting run down by the narrowest of margins. She was sent straight to the paddock following that defeat. The winner of that race has come out and run some cracking races behind some very smart types through the back half of the Spring and of the horses that she beat that day, three of them have since broken their maiden status. She has looked good winning a jump-out at Camperdown recently, she jumped well and assumed control, railed well into the straight and was never pushed out to win. A replay of that (heat 2) can be found here. (side note, the second horse in this jump-out, Zupasize, looks to have come back well and is nominated for a couple of races this week, look out for him).
Ballarat Race 5 - (Market)
(8) Atame is second-up today, there wasn’t a lot to like about her run resuming to be honest. The key here is that she looks the only leader in the race, hopefully she can get a few cheap sectionals through the middle sections. Her maiden win was here at the track second-up last campaign over the mile as well, she led all the way that day and never looked like getting run down. It’s a good run in here but have found if the leaders can kick and rail over the middle distances, they can be hard to run down. Back her each-way.
Goulburn Race 2 - (Market)
An interesting low class race over the staying trip of 2320m. (2) Havaduel has been up for a long time and is still officially at only his second prep. He has been racing very consistently and like the way that he has been racing up on the speed at the last couple. He was in a harder race two back at the Sapphire Coast, had the sit on the leaders and struck on ok when it was more suitable to be running on from the back. Last start was also at the Sapphire Coast on a soft track, and he took up the running. He ran them along, had them all chasing and after getting away on the turn ran away to win by almost 10 lengths! This is a little harder field and does get the extra weight, happy to with him again and hopefully the same tactics are employed.
Goulburn Race 4 - (Market)
(1) La Tigresa was a real eye-catcher last start at Kembla. She was a drifter in the betting and was awkwardly away from the wide draw. She was a mile back and wide without cover, continued to make her run before the turn and was the widest into the straight. She kept coming making ground all the way up the straight and had the best closing sectionals of the race. She has the horror draw to overcome but I think it may be a blessing in disguise. There is a bit of speed drawn just inside here and think there may be an early battle for the lead, as long as they work early and they don’t walk through the middle stages, she will get home hard.
Tip: (1) La Tigresa to win. $3.80 @ Sportsbet
