For the second time in two weeks we get to preview Golden Slipper Day after one of the most drama-filled lead ups in history. The rain has finally cleared and it’s blue skies all weekend in Sydney so let’s hope the track continues to dry out. There’s been some extra quality added to the meeting with the extra week turnaround so as usual there are plenty of winners to be found across a massive day which includes five Group 1 races!

Horse Racing Tips: Saturday March 27th
Rosehill Race 1
We kick proceedings off with the Darby Munro Stakes for 3 year olds and it is a high quality field this year. Wasn’t too keen on (6) Isotope last week on the heavy 10 but with the chance of the track getting into the soft range, she looks a cracking bet now. Her performances in the lead up to the Magic Millions Guineas were ridiculously good and she was travelling in that race before she clipped heels and fell. By all reports Tony Gollan has her back firing and is ready to tackle her first race down south.
Thinking (2) Doubtland could be the one at odds to give this a shake. Best wet tracker in the field so any downgrades are a positive. He won the Danehill Stakes when 2nd up last time in over 1200m and gets a similar setup here today.
Rosehill Race 3
Thinking (7) She’s Ideel is going to prove very hard to beat here. She is bursting to win a race like this after two huge finishes in her last couple starts. She flew home in the Millie Fox in an eye-catcher before going down a nose last start. Gets out to 1900m now, loves the sting out of the ground and was the beneficiary of the barriers being redrawn this week, now drawn perfectly on gate 2. Ready to peak third up and she looks one of the better bets of the day.
Rosehill Race 6
We move onto the G1 George Ryder Stakes over 1500m and I am keen to back another wet track specialist. (2) Avilius put the writing on the wall last start and looks a massive chance to finally break through for his first win in 14 races. Went absolutely enormous fresh behind Verry Elleegant in the Chipping Norton where he loomed up like the winner at the 200m mark. That run is too hard to ignore and he looks to have come back in great order. 2nd up record reads 6:3-1-0 and while the drop back in distance might be a slight query, he looks ready to peak here. That 0.2L off the best horse in the country last start will win this race easily.
(11) Funstar is the danger down in the weights and is one of the few who can also get through the ground. Pretty certain the winner comes from these two but am keen to stick with the Godolphin veteran. Quinella as the saver.
Rosehill Race 7
Well here it is. One of the biggest races on the Australian racing calendar is finally here. The 2021 Golden Slipper sees one of the most exciting fields we have seen for a while with many winning chances spread throughout. There are plenty of different formlines to follow and look into but personally I think the Todman Stakes is probably the race to pay most attention to. Both (8) Stay Inside and (2) Profiteer come out of that race where they both ran extremely well considering how it panned out and they dominate the top of the market. I’ve always had an opinion of Stay Inside and he lost no admirers in that race where he just had no luck and didn’t see daylight until the final 200m. Think he will have come on from that run and he has shown he should get through the heavy track okay after winning by 4L on a soft 7 two starts ago. Profiteer is an obvious danger who somehow kept kicking to run 2nd in that Todman Stakes after overracing. He has the speed from the gates and the low draw so expect him to be the one they will all need to get past. The drying conditions will suit him and is going to be extremely hard to run down.
(3) Artorius is the value in this race I think. The Victorian visitor has done no wrong in the lead up, storming home to take out the Blue Diamond last start in a big win. The drying conditions are in his favour and if we see a track upgrade or two expect the money to come for him.
(3) Artorius EZ $9.50/$3.10
Bendigo Race 1
Happy to be with (2) Tavidance in the opening race at Bendigo today. Was very unlucky fresh last prep and probably should have gone close there. Will enjoy the sting out of the ground and always performs well first up. Can mix his form a little bit which is a query but generally performs best after a spell. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t well backed leading up to the race and will give this a big shake.
Bendigo Race 7
Can’t see how they beat (8) Annavisto in this. Was an absolute moral beat last start after bolting in two back. Just needs to settle in the run today and will be going very close to winning. Jamie Kah jumps on board which is a massive plus and I think this horse is primed to run a big race today. Barrier 8 is no concern and Kah should give her a positive ride to sit handy in transit. Keen.
