We’ve got another good Saturday of racing all around the country with solid meetings at Moonee Valley, Randwick, Eagle Farm and Morphetville.
Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the meetings and has found his best bets to help you have a fill up this Saturday.
Horse Racing Tips: Saturday, July 31st
Moonee Valley Race 4
Excited to see (1) Buckhurst return to the races today after a solid debut prep in Australia. Go through his form and some of the horses he has beaten/been running against throughout his career just tell you how elite this guy is. He beat Sir Dragonet on debut back in Ireland before tackling proper G1 WFA contests last spring. He flies fresh, should find the front or be near enough to it today from the low draw and has been gelded since we last saw him. So long as the rain doesn’t hit too hard, he just needs to perform at 80% of the talent we know he has and he will be winning this. If the track gets into the heavy range I will be against him.
Moonee Valley race 6
(3) Ghodeleine has come back flying and I’m struggling to see how they turn the tables on her here today. She beat most key rivals comfortably last start and is rock hard fit 3rd up now. Gets the 3kg claim for Madi Lloyd who rode her last start and this horse just knows how to win - something you can’t say for many of these in the field. Moonee Valley is also a track where many horses can be found out but Ghodeleine isn’t one of those. Loves it here and I think she’ll be right in the finish again.
Randwick Race 7
Happy to back the UK import (2) Surf Dancer here after a solid enough local debut. He was hammered in betting that day but only managed 3rd behind Blondeau. Think he was in need of that run and can only take a massive amount of improvement from it. Looks a good setup today and thinking he may enjoy running on a better surface. Has been a winner 2nd up previously and I think he will run very well.
Morphettville Race 6
(3) Denero looks the best bet in Adelaide today and just needs to hold his form to be hard to beat here. Has been going around in much stronger races and now looks suited 4th up out to 1800m. Has a big turn of foot and gets in-form Jess Eaton to ride. Looks to be plenty of speed on paper and expecting him to sit out the back and be too good for them late.
Moonee Valley Race 9
(5) Melodeon looks one of the best each-way bets of the entire day and I’m very keen on her chances here. Was as good a trial as you’ll see leading into this prep and was then a touch unlucky first up over 1100m. Could argue she goes very close to winning with clear running and I think she can definitely fill a hole in this field. Ran well in some better races than this last prep and I think she might be flying at the moment. Happy to find out at the price.
(5) Melodeon E/W
