As the new season of racing begins, there are some dashes of spring horses sprinkled around the country today. We’ve got quality racing everywhere you look with strong meetings at Flemington, Randwick and Doomben to get stuck into.
Billy Bestford has done the form throughout the meetings and has highlighted his best bets to help you find a few winners across the day.
Horse Racing Tips: Saturday, August 7th
Doomben Race 1
No Prizes for finding him but (3) Hamlet Von Snitzel should make it three straight wins today with even luck in running. Has come back absolutely airborne this prep, bolting in both starts impressively. Is front-running and makes his own luck so should have every favour today in this small field. Was a winner over this trip last start and I think he will be too good again. Looks a good multi banker.

Randwick Race 4
Keen on (9) Loveplanet who gets a crack at this grade after a very good start to his career. Will make his Sydney debut today following three straight wins, with the latest a very tough one in the wet down in Victoria. Had every reason to fold up in the straight there but kept finding and I think he’s an even better horse on top of the ground. McDonald takes the ride and he looks progressive enough to be a big winning chance in this company.
Flemington Race 4
I’m a sucker for punishment which means I will be in (7) Lindhout’s corner yet again today. The booking of Newitt is a massive positive, considering his one sit on this horse was a dominant performance from the back of the field at this track two starts ago. Arguably this horse should have won a couple more races and there is no doubting her ability, and while her racing pattern doesn’t do her any favours it’s just so hard ot ignore her turn of foot when flashing home consistently. Newitt will hopefully be able to pull the right rein today and I think he can get some cover out the back and follow something into the race and let the horse do the rest.
Randwick Race 8
Looking forward to seeing exciting colt (3) Remarque return to the races today following a debut prep where he looked proper group level. Debuted with a dominant win as a short priced favourite before finishing 5th in the Todman where he was luckless. He’s won two trials leading into today and I think this horse will win here and go on to tackle some good races as a 3YO.
Doomben Race 7
(11) So Clever should be winning this. Was a certainty beat last start when beaten by the wide barrier on a day where the rail was the place to be. Did well to finish as close as he did there and now draws a perfect gate today. His first two starts were dominant front-running wins where he looked a serious horse and I think he can regain that form and make it three from four to start his career. Senior jockey now takes over which looks a huge factor to his chances.
Flemington Race 9
(7) Grinzinger Allee was well backed 1st up and didn’t have much luck, missing the kick and then finishing well down the outside. Has a good 2nd up record, should be race fitter today and getting to a big Flemington track should be suitable. Jamie Kah sticks for the ride while I am hoping the step up to the mile should give this horse every chance to wind up. Has flashed ability in his career so hoping he can put it all together today.
