Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Monday, September 28th.
We have three country meetings at Tamworth, Moe and Leeton, along with a metro meeting at Belmont in Perth as it's a public holiday in the West. Tim Geers has found a bet for every track in his preview below!
Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 28th
Leeton Race 3 (Market)
(2) Mr Mopett was a first up winner at Corowa and he can go on with it today. He won second up last preparation and the way he finished off first up suggests the extra 150m of today’s race will suit him even better. He’s drawn well in barrier 4 and Phil Sweeney’s runners tend to go very well here at Leeton, so I see no reason why he can’t make it back-to-back wins. (3) Tocatchacod might be his biggest danger. He was a winner here three starts ago and only went down narrowly last start. (1) Aleda is the favourite here but I’ll be taking it on with the 3kg apprentice on board first up.
Tamworth Race 5 (Market)
(5) Leave Me Some was narrowly beaten first up here at Tamworth, with the official margin being 0.01L. It was a big run from the back of the field. Last preparation she was a dominant winner second up from a spell, albeit it was on heavy ground. She’s only lightly raced so is still open to improvement and with any luck from the wide draw, she’s going to be very hard to hold out. She will have to settle at the back of the field but I think she’s still capable of rounding them up if she’s close enough on the turn. $5.00 is a good price.
Moe Race 7 (Market)
(4) Whipcracker Way bolted in by 4L here at Moe first up and there’s no reason she can’t do so again. That was on a soft 7 and both career wins have been on wet ground, so the heavy track today shouldn’t cause her too many issues. Hopefully she kicks up from barrier 1 and can navigate her way out to the best part of the track if the rail is no good. She should prove too good once again for Phillip Stokes and Alexandra Bryan.
(4) Whipcracker Way
$5.00
Belmont Race 8 (Market)
Keen to back two horses here at good odds as our only bet of the day at Belmont. (8) Censure caught the eye last start, running home strongly from the back of the field to finish 2nd to Annihilator. Her only previous third up run was a win so she should be peaking today. Chris Parnham sticks with her and trainer Darren McAuliffe is striking at 38% at Belmont this season. This is his only runner of the day so I’m expecting her to go very close at each way odds. The other runner to have something on is (9) Ruby Jean. She’s won two of her three career starts, those being at Albany and Geraldton. This is a tougher test but she’s only lightly-raced and resumes from a spell today, so if she’s improved with her break then she can be competitive. Her recent trial was good behind Bogart and $8.50 is a backable price.
Also backing: (9) Ruby Jean $8.50
