Horse Racing Tips: Monday, September 14th
Tamworth Race 1 (Market)
Tricky little maiden over the 1000m to start off at Tamworth but I’m interested in the Cody Morgan runner here, (9) Levi’s Storm. He’s had two recent trials at Scone and Muswellbrook. He was only fair in the first trial at Scone but his most recent one at Muswellbrook was significantly better, so he made good improvement from one trial to the next. Notably, he didn’t wear blinkers in either trial but they go on for race day here, so expect them to sharpen him up too. The stable have a very good record at Tamworth and he should be a big player at $4.80.
Moruya Race 2 (Market)
Going with two horses to roll the short-priced favourite here. (8) Don Luigi has only had one trial but it was a good one, finishing 2nd at Kembla. He’s on debut here and draws well in barrier 2 over the 900m course, so should be able to race in a handy spot throughout. The other horse I’ll be backing is (5) Miss Anarchy at $10. She did nothing in her first three career starts but she was much better last start at Corowa first up from a 13-week break. She finished 2nd there and now comes into this off a nine-week break. Drawn awkwardly in barrier 11 but Greg Backhouse runners always demand respect at Moruya and off that good last-start run, it wouldn’t surprise me to see her right in the finish at double figure odds.
Value: (5) Miss Anarchy $10
Hamilton Race 3 (Market)
(11) Seiners Express ran 4th on debut at Sale over 1200m, hitting the line well late, which indicates the step up to 1400m at his second start today should suit him. The queries are the heavy 10 track and barrier 1 (whether that will be the best place to be) but you always expect improvement with lightly-raced horses from this stable and he comes up against a very ordinary field. (1) Breaking Loose returns as a gelding and has jumped out well enough at Ballarat for a race like this, but the horse that beat him in the jumpout isn’t much good, so that’s the query.
(11) Seiners Express
$2.50
Hamilton Race 6 (Market)
Tackling a heavy 10 track first up is never ideal but (3) Mischa looks well placed today and does go well fresh, with two wins from three starts. She won well first up last prep on a Soft 7 at Geelong, so hopefully this doesn’t prove too much of a bog for her. This race is much easier than what she was racing against last prep, with her first up win in BM64 company preceding seven races in BM70 or BM78 grade. She drops back to a BM58 today and they’ve booked Brad Rawiller to ride at 61.5kg rather than an apprentice to take some weight off. If she runs up to her first up win last prep, she’s going to be very hard to beat. (8) Salome looks the obvious horse to beat from the Maher/Eustace stable, having been beaten a nose first up at Swan Hill. She does find it hard to win though, with just one win from 16 starts now. (9) Grassmere Miss might improve back to this track.
