It's time to dust ourselves off after the weekend and get back to work, and there's no better way to do it than a Monday at the races. Luke Krahe takes us around the grounds with his best horse racing tips coming to us from Ballarat and Tamworth today on Monday, May 18th.
Horse Racing Tips - Monday May 18th
Ballarat Synthetic Race 1 - (Market)
(12) I Feel Fine is a locally trained filly for the Simon Marshall yard. She has had three jump-outs leading into this, all here at Ballarat and all spaced a fortnight apart. The latest is the one we will focus on as it was on the synthetic track, the same surface as they race on today. She jumped well and sat outside the leader, she was asked the question at the top of the straight and quickly got the better of the leader and stuck on well to score. Follow another horse for that jump-out Zion from the Maher/Eustace yard, a replay of the trial can be found here.
Ballarat Synthetic Race 4 - (Market)
(2) Blacktown is a Snowden trained gelding lining up for career start number two. He debuted at Cranbourne 10 days ago, he was easy in the betting off a fair jump-out and started well into double figures. He settled worse than mid-field, was running on well before getting squeezed up late and not having much room. He was beaten 2.6 lengths but probably should have finished closer. He steps up from 1200m-1400m today and does go on the synthetic for the first time. Expect a lot of improvement and for him to be right in the finish.
Ballarat Synthetic Race 6 - (Market)
(2) California Sunset had his first three runs in the winter of 2019, all of them on heavily rain-affected tracks. He showed very little and was sent to the paddock, resuming at Horsham 16 days ago on a heavy track. There was support for him in the betting and after jumping well, he led and was too quick for his opposition and never looked like getting run down. He certainly looks to have come on since that initial preparation, from the good draw with the claim he should have all the options early to lead or take a sit. (6) Thelburg will be opposing him at the top of the market, he was ok but very one-paced on the synthetic track at Pakenham last time. From the wider draw and the likelihood of him having to sit parked, I have to be against.

Tamworth Race 3 - (Market)
Happy to be with the Kris Lees/Andrew Gibbons combination on (5) Fu Ni in the 1400m maiden. Her debut was back in November at Muswellbrook and she was very heavily supported starting in the red with Australian sportsbooks. She looked to have every chance finishing mid-field and was sent straight to the paddock. She resumed at Taree three weeks ago on the soft track, she again looked to have every chance after sitting behind the speed but was only fair in the run home to be beaten under 3 lengths. Two key changes here, she is drawn out so should be able to make a run when needed and not be stuck on the inside of horses as well as getting a huge jockey change, Gibbo replaces Louise Day.
