Horse Racing Tips: Monday, March 2nd
Sapphire Coast Race 1 - (Market)
(6) Rosebank will start a short-priced favourite in this race, she is probably the best horse in the race but I don’t like the way she maps. She will get back her two runs since winning her maiden she has had her chance to win in similar races to this, there is no way I could be taking the deep red figures currently on offer. (1) Goodradigbee has the wide draw with Brendan Ward sticking with the ride following his maiden win last start. He was very well backed into as short as #2.30 at the jump at Orange, had a soft run behind the speed before accelerating quickly when asked. He ran away to win by more than 3 lengths with another good gap to third. Quite often these Maiden/Class 1 races can be not too much of a step up in class, he may have the confidence now nad maps to have the tactical advantage over the favourite early.
Sapphire Coast Race 2 - (Market)
(9) Smartkap was on debut here at the track last start on a soft track. She opened up 5/2 ($3.50) in the old and was a big drifter in the betting, starting $7. She got a mile back and was wide, before running on hard into third late. It really was a big run and she proved that she can do work, again over the 900m here today she will have to be wide throughout but hopefully can settle closer. This looks no tougher.
Cowra Race 1 - (Market)
(11) Smouldering is a 6-start maiden that has been up for a while but has had a 5-week freshen-up between runs. She placed at her last two runs before that mini-break, has trialed well enough against better horses prior to this. She has enough speed to lead from the inside gate, Greg Ryan takes the ride and shoe will find this no harder. Maybe wait and see if she leads early and then go again in the run?
Cowra Race 5 - (Market)
(3) The Long Run has been up for a long time but is racing so well, winning 5 of her last 8 starts. She won three in a row, all when leading and controlling the race before coming to town last start. Three weeks ago at Warwick Farm she was faced with a heavy track for the first time in a much harder race, led them up but was swallowed up early in the straight in clearly what was the inferior ground in closer to the fence. Back on top of the ground today from the good gate and the claim, they will be struggling to run her down. She should get the lead and from there, hopefully it’s just a matter of times and margins!
