Dubbo Race 7
(4) Zamali may find the 1000m too short for him fresh but I think he has a chance to get the right run on the inside and finish off over the top of them. Two starts back he was a winner here at Dubbo in a harder race over 1400m, after getting the gun run behind the leaders he hit the line well in what was probably not the best part of the track. He then was again here at the track in a similar class to this over the same trip, got a good run before angling wider and hitting the line well into second, but did have every chance. He was very consistent at the back-end of his last campaign, gets the bandages off for the first time and should get the gun run mid-field or better on the inside. If the luck comes, he will be finishing as good as any, take him each-way. (2) Risk And Reward will start near the top of the betting but happy to take him on, I think he will be a big drifter. First-up over 1000m from a wide gate for a new trainer. No thanks.
Dubbo Race 9
(6) Patrick May debuted at Warren a month ago in a much easier maiden, and there wasn’t a lot of money for him, eventually getting out to double figure odds at some betting agencies. Drawn seven, he was three-wide without cover for the journey up outside the leaders, took over early in the straight before getting headed. He kicked back strongly and rallied for a tough win. He has to go up in grade here out of maiden company, but gets the good rails draw and should be able to use his tactical speed to his advantage. Coming back in trip from the 1200m to the 1100m should suit also. There are double figure odds available at the time of writing so something small the place also if that’s your thing.
Taree Race 2
(7) Sophie’s Lass resumed at career start number two last in early December in a 1000m maiden that was no easier than this. He jumped well, led, stuck on well but was nabbed in the last strides. He then was here at the Taree track second-up and never saw the rail, was four-wide no cover throughout before hitting the front early in the straight. The work told late as he was pinned late by not one but three horses and eventually was out of a place. Love the jockey change with Aaron Bullock going back on, from the good draw I expect he will be hunting forward and looking for the top. If he gets to the rails first it will be worth an extra bet in the run.
Taree Race 4
(2) Azarmin resumed with a win at Tuncurry in a similar Class 2 to this, she was mid-field in the run but finished too well to get up on the line. She then went to Scone and was very easy near the top of the market, mid-field on the rails in the run she was under pressure a long way out and although she was ok through the line, she never looked likely. She stays at the mile here third-up and shouldn’t be as flat, gets the blinkers for the first time and drawn out, I expect her to settle a little closer. (4) Longchamp Lass is well in the market but very happy to take her on, she has only won 2 of 35 lifetime, a get back type that has a poor SP profile. She has to be a huge drifter, play around her if you are not keen on our top pick.
