Horse Racing Tips: Monday, February 24th
Queanbeyan Race 1 - (Market)
(2) Sky Mission is a speedy veteran that loves these short trips. He placed at Orange three starts back over the 1000m then went to the Sapphire Coast and was caught four-wide no cover throughout and did will to finish mid-field. Last start he was here at the track over this trip in this grade, jumped in front from this gate, got a bit wide to the better going and did enough to hang on. He does have to carry an extra 2kg today but back on top of the ground, hopefully can ping away again and rail like a greyhound and prove too quick.
Queanbeyan Race 2 - (Market)
(4) All About Me won her maiden when first-up this campaign at start 6 as a lightly raced 5YO. She then showed speed at her next two starts out of maiden grade before going to a Highway last start at Randwick. She was a triple-figure chance in the betting, not surprisingly after her only win was a non-TAB event. She was super in defeat, stuck off the track with cover throughout, she kept chasing and ran into third in a much, much harder race than this. She comes back to a 58 and draws well, although the inside horse has some speed, I expect the jock to push on and try to lead all the way.
Bathurst Race 3 - (Market)
I initially went looking for something to beat this Gai/Bott trained gelding (2) Well Known, but have ended up making it a good thing. He is first-up over 1400m after a 6-month break, he didn’t show a lot at his first two runs at prep number one, although they were in much harder maidens than this. He, like most of the stable, showed good speed at both starts over shorter trips, the lead looks a gift for him today. I just can’t see any pressure being applied, if he lands on the bunny and kicks on the turn, which of these are going to run him down? He has trialed ok, recently on the synthetic track he put a big space on his rivals before getting tired late, a video of that (trial 18) can be found here. This could start very very short with the blinkers on (he had them on in the trial also), monitor the prices post-9am but anything in black figures looks a steal.
Bathurst Race 6 - (Market)
(2) Daredevil always needs everything to go right as he has not raced on the speed at his last couple. He does have some tactical pace as showed when fresh and winning his maiden, I did like his run last start at Gosford n the smaller track. He was well back on the rails in the run, held-up approaching the turn and the short run home, got the split late before hitting the line hard to place. He never looked the winner though. He has the tricky inside gate and is coming back in trip, I can’t imagine the big players are going to be too interested as they normally don’t firm hard the ones that are going to be ridden for luck. He has the talent to win one of these, just needs everything to go right. Wait until late in the betting to back him.
