Horse Racing Tips: Friday, May 8th
Goulburn Race 1 - (Market)
Some people believe in the ol' “odds-on look on” theory, but for me, there can be just as much value found in horses priced in the red. (3) Nuremburg Castle falls into that category, he debuted at Wagga three weeks ago in a harder maiden than this. He was very well supported to start a $3.60 favourite, from the middle draw he settled worse than mid-field in the run. He was slightly held-up then came off heels before getting clear over the last furlong, he ran on hard but just found the winner too good. No doubt he should have probably won. The third horse that day was Fat Gecko who was a dominant winner over the carnival at Wagga last week, it really does look a put-in take-out job. The $1.80 looks a gift, he is your banker for the weekend.

Coffs Harbour Race – 4 (Market)
(5) Without Risk won two of three last prep, she resumed off almost a year on the sidelines at Ballina o the heavy track and ran on well into second without looking the winner. She then went to Grafton three weeks ago and was beaten as favourite when on top of the ground, although the margin wasn’t huge. She steps up to the mile today third-up and should be rock hard fit, if he can settle closer and the only danger may be if he can get off the rails when the runs come. We will learn a lot with the betting as is always the case with these Matty Dunn runners.
EDIT: Without Risk has been SCRATCHED
Cranbourne Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Atypical was backed as if there was no settling at his debut, he had trialed well and after opening in the red on the VOP, was off the map into an SP of $1.65 at the jump. He showed good speed to lead, was headed at the 250m mark and was only fair in the run home to be beaten just over 5 lengths. The second horse that day backed up 4 days later and bolted in to win a maiden by almost 4 lengths. Was he very disappointing on debut, yes. It is hard to ignore the weight of money for him though, he gets the blinkers off and the winkers go on. From the good draw, I expect him to be bounce back and be very hard to run down.
Cranbourne Race 4 - (Market)
(12) Yulong Status is a first-starter for the Snowdens drawn off the track, there was a lot to like about his most recent jump-out at Flemington. She jumped ok off the inside draw, hunted through to be on the speed, railed through in front and was clicked up early in the straight. He stuck on well, it wasn’t a real quick time for the day which is a little concern. I expect that they will ride him positively and go forward, hopefully he can sit parked and run into a place.
EDIT: Yulong Status has been SCRATCHED
