Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Friday, March 27th.
With the good news that Mark Zahra's COVID-19 test came back negative, racing right around Australia resumes on Friday. The Muswellbrook Cup headlines the action and Luke Krahe has previewed the feature along with his best bets for the Sapphire Coast below.
Horse Racing Tips: Friday, March 27th
Muswellbrook Race 2 - (Market)
(2) Colesburg had placed at three in a row prior to going to Kembla Grange last start in a much harder race. He was well away and rolled along in front, he was quickly headed and didn’t go on, weakened badly but there was obviously an issue. He gets up in trip back in the smaller track here which looks to suit, he should be able to land on the bunny again and be very hard to run down back in this grade.
Muswellbrook Race 7 - (Market)
The Muswellbrook Cup is the feature of the day and writing the preview ahead of time is tough as there are 5 dual-acceptors engaged. Thankfully our top pick (6) Bobby Dee is not one of them! It looks a very open race on paper and I will be playing this guy on an each-way basis. Depending on how many of those accepting for Saturday run here or not, Bobby Dee should start out closer to double figures. He doesn’t have a lot of brilliance but I like the way the race sets up for him. He should be able to sit a couple of pairs back one-off the fence, the speed should be on throughout. He will keep coming in the straight, he showed a lot of toughness last start at Rosehill after sitting parked. Wait until late in the betting to back him, he will be a drifter.
Sapphire Coast Race 2 - (Market)
(1) Jarrett will find this a lot easier than what he encountered last start when resuming. He was in a BM70 at Warwick Farm, over-raced through the middle stages and after getting wider on the turn, was only fair in the run home. The winner of that race is flying and has since come out and win the Country Champs Wildcard and has qualified for the final. He has placed at two of four when second-up but gets a much easier assignment, I expect that he will show a lot more speed in this back on top of the ground, if he does find the top early as I anticipate, go again in the run.
Sapphire Coast Race 3 - (Market)
(10) Stole My Heart is a first-starter from the Theresa Bateup yard up the Highway at Kembla Grange. The 4YO daughter of Poet’s Voice was seen at the official trials for the first time at her home track two weeks ago, in the small field of five she was stuck four-wide outside the speed. She took a while to balance up but once given a click, she really responded and she came away with the winner to put a gap on the rest of them. A replay of that heat (3) can be found here. She looks to be given plenty of time and ready to go.
