Horse Racing Tips: Friday, December 11th
Moonee Valley Race 2
I was on (4) Red Santa on debut at Sandown where he was completely murdered by John Allen, who was asleep at the wheel on the turn, resulting in him being pocketed and held up for a good portion of the straight. He finished hard once he got out into the clear. He was well supported on that day to start $4.00, so I suspect there’s a bit under the hood. With clear running from barrier 9 tonight, I think he’ll be able to finish over the top of his rivals. The market has it wrong with him as the third elect in betting, in my opinion.
Moonee Valley Race 4
The Chris Waller-trained (9) Loveplanet relished the step up in distance last start, bolting in by 6L at Yarra Valley. There wasn’t a great deal of depth to that race at all, but he couldn’t have been more impressive, and it’s worth noting he started $2.15f on debut at Pakenham, so his SP profile is very strong. He rises in distance again tonight to 1600m and draws well in barrier 2, so he looks the one to beat again.
Moonee Valley Race 7
(1) She’s Sensational found form on the synthetic surface last preparation, with two wins and two 2nds from four starts. She resumes from a spell tonight with Liam Riordan on from barrier 1, so she should be able to kick up and lead from that gate. Whether she can bring her synthetic form to the turf is the query but she has performed well earlier in her career. Matt Laurie runners typically race very well here at The Valley and she’ll make her own luck from up on speed, so at $5.50 I’m keen to have something on each way.
(1) She's Sensational E/W
$5.50
Canterbury Race 4
Two from the Bjorn baker stable I’m keen to back here. (2) Night Of Power was gelded coming into this preparation and his first up run at Kembla was good, only beaten 0.2L. He tends to improve with a run under his belt, so he looks spot on for tonight. Barrier 8 is an awkward one but don’t be surprised to see him fired out early in search of the lead. If he settles back, he’ll need the track to be playing fairly. If that’s the case, he’s the horse to beat. His stablemate (4) Irukandji is value at $11. He’s been well beaten in his first two runs back from a spell but that’s not unusual for him. He does improve significantly third up though, and he gets the blinkers back on as well. Draws perfectly in barrier 1 and Bowman is booked to ride.
Value: (4) Irukandji $11 Ladbrokes
