Horse Racing Tips: Friday, April 17th
Orange Race 1 - (Market)
An interesting race for the babies, I can’t imagine it is often you see a Maher/Eustace trained horse debuting at Orange? (2) Froome is from the Bjorn Baker yard having his debut. He trialed at Hawkesbury late last month, after beginning awkwardly he quickly found his feet and ran to the lead. He railed nicely and wasn’t urged along at all, he was run down late but probably couple have won had there been any urgency. The winner of that trial has since come out and run a nice race to place at Kembla, a replay of that trial can be found here. I expect with Greg Ryan taking the ride, they will push forward and be very hard to run down.
Orange Race 3 - (Market)
We are with G Ryan again here in Race 3, (2) Attuned has been to the races seven times and still a maiden. He has good speed but hasn’t been able to get across to the rails at his last couple. Two starts back at Moruya he was three-wide no cover and didn’t get any closer to the paint, he loomed up but faded late to just miss a placing after the tough run. He was then at Queanbeyan and once again had to work hard and wide before getting outside the leader, he kept coming in the straight and although he couldn’t run down the leader, there was a big gap back to third. He won’t get many better chances than this, just needs to get across to the chair without working too hard.
Kyneton Race 6 - (Market)
It took (10) Ocean Drive 9 starts to break her maiden status but she did it with style last start at Werribee. She placed at her first two starts this prep before tackling harder races. She went out of maiden grade into a BM64 and was ok in the run home before going to Caulfield in the rich Inglis Sales race and was outclassed. She had three weeks between runs before going to Werribee where she was an easing favourite. She settled mid-field before getting wide and running on hard to score easily by more than 2 lengths. She can go on with it here and has that experience out of maiden class already, any rain around wouldn’t hurt either.
Gold Coast Race 6 - (Market)
(4) Jay Jay D’ar has been very consistent through her career, she has had thirteen starts and only missed a place on four occasions. She was resuming here at the track last start against the boys and after opening favourite, was easy in the betting out to a SP of $4.40. She settled mid-field and although she kept grinding away, she did have every chance. I love these Waller runners that are in the market fresh and look a little plain when they come to the track second-up. I expect her to be a big improver back against her own sex, she will be up on the speed and hard to run down.
