It's another bumper night of harness racing at Gloucester Park this Friday, August 23rd.
Harness racing expert Trent Orwin has previewed the meeting and offered his betting suggestions below.
Harness Racing Tips: Gloucester Park - Friday, August 23rd
Gloucester Park Race 2 – 7:50pm AEST (Market)
The likely leader is (2) Courage Tells and (1) Mister Ardee should get a good run trailing the leader. (6) Speed Man will work around to the breeze position. Courage Tells is racing in excellent form and he defeated Speed Man three starts ago over the 2536m. His past two starts have been good and if he is able to lead, he is going to prove hardest to beat. Mister Ardee is the class dropper and his form reads well. Three and four starts ago Mister Ardee was beaten 3.9m by Simba Bromac and 3.8m by Thereugo respectively. Happy to support both horses here. (4) Carter Micheal and (8) Pierre Whitby are next best.
Value: (1) Mister Ardee $7.50
Gloucester Park Race 4 – 8:55pm AEST (Market)
An intriguing Level 12 race over 1730m and one horse that can fly the gate when asked is (6) Clarenden Hustler for trainer Matthew Scott. Gary Hall Jnr will drive and he will have to make a decision at the start; run the gate and try to cross the five horses drawn inside, or ease out and hope for early speed so that Clarenden Hustler can run over the top of them. His first up fifth was excellent and he should go close. (3) One Off Delight is an obvious danger. His odds-on quote looks skinny if he doesn’t find the lead from barrier three. (4) Roman Aviator is hard to beat if he manages to cross and lead while (5) Waimac Attack will run another honest race for the Bond stable.
(6) Clarendon Hustler
$9.00
Gloucester Park Race 6 – 9:55pm AEST (Market)
A field of eight will compete in the FFA and I am happy to put the pen straight through (1) Vincenzo Peruggia who needs to go to another level to compete with these horses. He will be crossed by (3) Thereugo who looks to have improved slightly for new trainer Sue Wiscombe. Two starts ago Thereugo defeated Chiaroscuro and (2) Im Soxy in 1:56.4 for the 2130m. Thereugo ran home in 27.9 and 27.3 for a 55.2 last half. He then led and was a narrow third against (4) Handsandwheels and Im Soxy in 1:53.9 for the 1730m. Thereugo should go close leading once again. (7) Vampiro will probably head to the breeze again and is a last start winner of an FFA. He could make it back-to-back wins. Handsandwheels comes up on top in my numbers and I do think he is the best chance; $2.25 looks a bit too short to get involved though. (8) Vultan Tin could fly home off a cold sit again and he is versatile.
Gloucester Park Race 7 – 10:32pm AEST (Market)
Gary Hall Snr trains (4) Just Rockon Bye who is first up from a spell. She last raced in March against FFA fillies and mares. Technically this race is the same class but it’s not due to no Our Alfie Romeo, Lady De La Renta and Miss Sangrial. At least one of those mares has been sold to America. At her past three starts, Just Rockon Bye has only suffered defeats of 2.6m, 3.5m and 4.3m. She is capable of a slick last half compared to some of her rivals here and Gary Hall Jnr is likely to send her forward at the start. (5) Infinite Symbol, (8) Crystal Sparkles, (9) Maczaffair and (1) The Achiever are the main dangers.
(4) Just Rockon Bye
