It’s been a controversial final season of the world wide phenomenon, Game of Thrones, to date. Many fans think that the plot has been rushed to tie up loose ends in the remaining few hours of the series, but there has been no shortage of surprises along the way.
With five episodes of the final season now in the book, the finale of Game of Thrones is set to air at 11am (AEST) on Monday, the 20th of May. We take a look at some of the betting markets heading into the final episode and give our predictions as to what will happen in one of the most anticipated events of the year.
Game of Thrones Finale Betting Tips
With a few potential leaks and even more fan theories circling around the internet, it’s tough to find much value heading into the final episode. However, there are a few markets that we like and we’ll outline them below.
Last Character to Speak
This is an interesting market that we think is a bit of a two horse race. There’s no doubt that Game of Thrones writers will want to end the series with something poetic, which leaves the door open for a few characters to chime in. Tyrion Lannister has been arguably the main character of the entire series and has more quotable lines than anyone in Westeros and at $3, he represents great value to close out the show, however, we are leaning towards Jon Snow’s loyal best friend, Samwell Tarly.
Ever since Tarley’s trip to The Citadel to train to become a Maester, it’s been a popular fan theory that the entire Game of Thrones story is being told through the lens of Samwell Tarly. He has a brief conversation with his superior about the authoring of books and how the titles need to be poetic. Since then, it’s been thought that Samwell Tarly could indeed be the author of the history book that chronicle the show and he will title it ‘A Song of Ice & Fire’, the same title of the books by George R.R. Martin that the show was adapted from.
We think this could result in an ending similar to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ series, where Frodo is shown finishing his book.

Jon Snow/Daenerys Targaryen
After a turn of events in episode four saw Daenerys Targaryen become arguably the new antagonist of the show, we think it’s almost a guarantee that she will die in the finale, giving way for one of the Starks to sit on the Iron Throne. Jon Snow has taken a back seat in a lot of the plot lines throughout season eight so far. Many thought that he would be the one to kill the Night King, but that honour went to Arya. Many also thought that he might be the one to kill Cersei, but he didn’t play a massive part in the battle of Kings Landing either.
Jon has to have a big moment in the finale, and we think that is most likely to come in the form of killing his love, Daenerys. Jon saw what Dany had become in the last episode and he will feel compelled to do what is right. He had a brief conversation with Thormund about returning north of the wall to live out his days, which we think is a likely scenario.
Prediction: Jon Snow to kill Daenerys Targaryen
