Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday May 18th

May 17th 2024, 11:45am, By: Brendan Bunworth

Flemington Racing Tips

Flemington will host a large 10-race card on Saturday with the Andrew Ramsden being the feature. The winner of that race will gain guaranteed entry into the Melbourne Cup. Lunar Flare (1st) and White Marlin quinellaed this race last year and were in the early betting for a long time in 2023. Conditions will be cool and gallopers will run on a Soft5. Race 1 will start at 11:35pm (AEST), and our three best plays of the day are below.

Also be sure to head over to our Racing Tips page for more free tips from the key meetings around the country this Saturday!

Flemington Racing Tips: Saturday, May 18th 2024

Race 6: Sir Henry Bolte Handicap - 2:15pm (AEST)

(4) Heed The Omens ran on very well for 2nd at this track on April 25 over the mile and after a little freshen up is predicted to fire for Team Waller. Lane rides again and from barrier 5 he should get a nice run. It's his first try on the Soft so that is an unknown but the extra 400m looks ideal and the stable would know if he could handle the jump. There doesn’t look to be a lot of pace in the race so Lane might settle a couple of pairs closer this time.

(1) Aztec State stormed home to win well after being a long way back at Caulfield last start. The worry is here is that he may get too far back again in a race without much pace.

(10) Saban was backed at Cranbourne early when winning but drifted largely in the last 10 minutes which was strange. Saban is still learning, is currently double figure odds and will only get better and a top 3 finish wouldn’t surprise here.

(4) Heed The Omens

$3.80 (2 Units)

Race 8: Andrew Ramsden - 3:30pm (AEST)

(13) Little Mix is up in class but is very consistent. She is very fit now after six runs in from a spell and this is probably her target race to gain entry into the Cup. She has finished in the placings on 8 of 9 occasions on the Soft and she should get a Soft track again here. She has won at Flemington before and it does look like she will handle the distance. She will come from the back.

(12) The Map had the money of most of Australia last start when winning the QE Cup at Morphettville and will likely be the favourite again here. He keeps powering to the line and he has proven the distance is no issue. Lane replaces Kah for the ride.

(6) Mostly Cloudy is another who gets back in his races and is a proven winner having won his first 5 race starts. Since then after finding his grade he has just won the one but he has won 3 times over the distance. A track upgrade would be nice.

(13) Little Mix E/W

$15/$4.00 (0.5 Units)

Race 10: Trevor Clarke Handicap - 4:43pm (AEST)

(1) Shesallshenanigans stuck on well last start at Caulfield when 2nd and with even more fitness on her side now she should be fitter again on a surface that she enjoys. Zahra hops aboard for the first time and she will likely settle around 3rd or 4th in the run before he lets her down over the final 200m of the straight. I'm hoping barrier 13 is a good get with horses running down the outside part of the track.

(2) Pantelone has been running well in midweek events and deserves a chance at this level. He settles midfield and has no issues on the Soft. Has placed in 75 percent of his races and the 16-1 on offer looks overs.

(13) Elba has never missed a place and is always close up to the win in her races. She has a good starting price profile and has her hoof on the till.

(1) Shesallshenanigans

$5.00 (2 Units)
