EPL 2023-24: Matchday 6 Preview & Betting Tips
Arsenal vs Tottenham
Emirates Stadium, Sunday 24th September, 11:00pm AEST
Sunday evening sees another chapter added to the historic North London Derby, as Arsenal and Tottenham go head-to-head at the Emirates. Both sides are unbeaten to start the season with four wins and a draw, with Tottenham second on the table and Arsenal fourth. Spurs will be riding high after a remarkable come from behind win last week against Sheffield United, with Tottenham scoring in the 98th and 100th minute, to win 2-1. Tottenham dominated proceedings with 28 shots and 71% possession, and their pressure eventually broke the back of a stubborn Sheffield United.
Despite not being at their best, Arsenal were still in control in their 1-0 victory over Everton. The Gunners haven’t been at their best to start the season, but have still kept producing results. Arsenal rank third in the Premier League for possession (66.1%), but just haven’t been able to convert their opportunities in attack. Mikel Arteta’s men have had 78 shots on goal this season, for just 9 goals, ranked seventh in the league. It’s not necessarily cause for alarm given they’re still winning, however Arsenal will need to be better in their final third if they are to challenge for the title this season.
These sides are tough to split with Arsenal ranked the equal second-best defence conceding just four goals, while Tottenham are ranked third having conceded only five goals. Tottenham are the third most prolific side in front of goal, and their potency in attack is where they can gain the upper hand against their arch rivals equal second ranked defence (4 goals). Tottenham have done a great job this season at controlling the tempo of games, and being able to heap pressure on their opponents by denying them possession. This is going to be a cracking clash between two very good sides, however with how Tottenham matchup against Arsenal, they’re primed to take the first North London Derby of the season.

Liverpool vs West Ham
Anfield, Sunday 24th September, 11:00pm AEST
It’s another Sunday night blockbuster as third placed Liverpool host sixth placed West Ham. After conceding the opening goal inside of seven minutes, Liverpool grinded out a 3-1 victory, scoring three goals in the final 35 minutes of play. West Ham’s three game winning streak came to an abrupt end in a 3-1 defeat to Manchester City. City registered 29 shots to West Ham’s 6, and held 69% possession, in a convincing performance. It doesn’t get any easier for the Hammers as they head to a venue they haven’t won at since 2015.
After a difficult campaign last season that was plagued by injuries and inconsistency, Liverpool have got their balance back at both ends of the pitch. The Reds are the equal second-best defence in the league having conceded only four goals, and are the fourth best attacking side scoring twelve goals from five games. Although West Ham have been a dynamic side in their front third, their lack of defence in midfield and their back third leaves them vulnerable against good teams. They were exposed badly by the league leaders last week, and could be in for more of the same at Anfield.
Liverpool have feasted on West Ham in the Jurgen Klopp era, holding an 11-1-1 record from their last thirteen Premier League games against the Hammers. West Ham were given a brutal reality check last week, and it’s difficult to see them turning things around against a Liverpool side that has won four straight games in the Premier League. This is a nightmare matchup for David Moyes’ men, and this fixture could get very ugly if Liverpool scores early.

Brighton vs Bournemouth
American Express Community Stadium, Sunday 24th September, 11:00pm AEST
Brighton picked up their fourth win from five matches, as they completely dismantled Manchester United at Old Trafford. The 3-1 win was built on a brilliant performance from the Seagulls midfield, who controlled the pace of the game with and without the ball. With Tottenham and Arsenal playing each other this weekend, a win for Brighton would see them jump into the top four. Bournemouth registered their second consecutive draw in a 0-0 result against Chelsea on Matchday 5. The Cherries are still without a win this season, with three draws and two defeats from five games.
Brighton’s form this season has been built on a spectacular attacking brand of football that has consistently produced goals week in, week out. Brighton have scored a league high fifteen goals, and have scored at least three goals in four of their five games this season. In comparison, Bournemouth have scored only four goals, ranked eighteenth in the league, and have their work cut out for them against red hot Brighton outfit. The Cherries have been unable to hold possession for consistent periods of time this season, maintaining just 43.6% possession.
Their lack of time with the ball has meant they’ve been on the back foot in each game they’ve played, and they don’t have the firepower to be a counter attacking threat. This matchup plays perfectly into Brighton’s hands, and they should have another big day in front of goal, as they become accustomed to this season. The Seagulls have won three of their last four Premier League clashes against Bournemouth, and will continue that form with a comfortable win over the Cherries.
Brighton -1

More EPL Matchday 6 Tips
Crystal Palace vs Fulham (Sunday 12am AEST)
Crystal Palace have been a hard team to get a read on this season, but their best is clearly good enough to win these types of matches. They got the job done at home last time and should be getting the bet of this current version of Fulham.
Crystal Palace to Win ($1.90 at Ladbrokes)
Manchester City vs Nottingham (Sunday 12am AEST)
The Citizens are yet to put a foot wrong this season and have only conceded three goals from five matches. They should have no problem taking care of Nottingham, and a win to nil is what we expect.
Manchester City Win to Nil ($1.73 at TopSport)
Luton vs Wolves (Sunday 12am AEST)
Luton have found life tough back in the Premier League but get an opportunity to get on the board this weekend. They’ll likely play a more attacking brand knowing they’re a winning chance against the wolves, and that should lead to a game with plenty of goals.
Both Teams to Score ($1.75 at TAB)
Brentford vs Everton (Sunday 2:30am AEST)
Brentford suffered their first loss of the season last start but still put in a gallant effort against Newcastle. They should be able to bounce straight back onto the winners list this weekend when they host an Everton outfit that’s lost four of their five league matches to date.
Brentford to Win ($1.75 at Ladbrokes)
Burnley vs Manchester United (Sunday 5am AEST)
Both Burnley and Manchester United would be disappointed with their form to start the season, but United clearly have the more talent and upside. They should be able to secure all three points when they come up against a Burnley side that’s conceded 12 goals from four outings.
Manchester United to Win ($1.70 at Bet365)
Chelsea vs Aston Villa (Sunday 11pm AEST)
Chelsea had a bitterly disappointing 2022-23 campaign and haven’t shown any signs of improvement in the early goings this season. In their current form they simply don’t deserve to be odds on favourites to defeat a talented Aston Villa side.
Aston Villa to Win ($3.80 at Ladbrokes)
Sheffield vs Newcastle (Monday 1:30am AEST)
Sheffield have managed to find only one point from their five matches so far and now host Newcastle who are one of the better teams in the league on their day. It’s tough to see how they can stop the visitors from piling on the goals in this one.
Newcastle -1 ($2.25 at TAB)
