EPL 2023-24: Matchday 3 Preview & Betting Tips
Bournemouth vs Tottenham
Vitality Stadium, Saturday 26th August, 9:30pm AEST
Ange Ball is well and truly in effect at Tottenham, with a 2-0 win over Manchester United the first under Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham were dynamic with the ball, once again winning the possession battle and playing with more attacking flair than we’ve seen in a long time from a Spurs side. Tottenham will be looking to continue their winning ways when they head to the Vitality Stadium to take on Bournemouth, who are winless from their opening two games.
Bournemouth ended season ‘22/’23 with four consecutive losses, and the Cherries have carried that form into the start of this season. Even after scoring in the opening three minutes and having an extra man against Liverpool, Bournemouth still failed to take advantage in a 3-1 defeat last week. If Tottenham can dominate possession like they have across the opening fortnight of the season, there are going to be limited opportunities for the Cherries.
In the twelve Premier League fixtures played between Tottenham and Bournemouth, Tottenham have had the upper hand, holding a 8-2-2 record. Postecoglou already has his side playing the brand he wants them to, and Spurs will only continue to get better week after week. Tottenham will continue their positive start to this season and make it seven out of a possible nine points taken.

Brighton vs West Ham
American Express Community Stadium, Sunday 27th August, 2:30am AEST
Brighton have opened their Premier League campaign with consecutive 4-1 victories, as they sit atop the Premier League table. The Seagulls will be looking for a third straight win when they host West Ham on Sunday morning. The Hammers are coming off an impressive 3-1 victory against Chelsea, holding a 1-1-0 record from their opening two games.
Brighton’s goal scoring form should come as no surprise, given the Seagulls were the fourth most prolific attacking team last season, scoring 75 goals. Brighton had the most shots on goal last season (613), and have recorded the most shots on goal across the first two weeks of this season (43). Brighton have been generating goal scoring opportunities better than any side, and will be confident they can continue that form against the Hammers.
Brighton played in seventeen games last season where four or more goals were scored, while five of West Ham’s last eleven games in season ‘22/’23 had at least four goals scored. While Brighton have been one of the best attacking sides in the Premier League, West Ham have shown a capacity to be vulnerable defensively after being one of the best attacking teams between 2021 and 2022. Although the 3.5 goals line seems high, with what both sides have showcased across the opening fortnight of the season, there should be plenty of goals in this match.

Newcastle vs Liverpool
St James’ Park, Monday 28th August, 1:30am AEST
The game of the weekend is the final clash on Matchday One, as Newcastle and Liverpool face off at St James’ Park. The Reds picked up their first win of the season against Bournemouth, while Newcastle were handed their first loss by defending champions Manchester City. With both clubs expected to be finishing inside the top four, this looms as three crucial points at stake for both sides.
Despite conceding in the opening three minutes and going down to ten men in the 58th minute, Liverpool produced a powerful performance to run over the top of Bournemouth. The Reds recorded 65% possession and had 26 shots on goal, making a statement after a draw on Matchday One. This game will see one of the best attacking sides in the league taking on one of the best defensive sides, and this battle will go a long way to deciding who wins this clash. Despite their loss to Manchester City, Eddie Howe’s defence held firm in a game where the ball lived in their defensive half.
Liverpool have had the wood over Newcastle, with seven wins and two draws from their last nine games against the Magpies. Despite Newcastle’s drastic improvement last season, Jurgen Klopp’s side still claimed victories in both fixtures against Newcastle. Alexis Mac Allister’s suspension was overturned, meaning Liverpool will be at full strength for a huge clash in the makeup of the top four. Newcastle haven’t beaten Liverpool in a Premier League fixture since 2015, and the weight of numbers in attack will be enough to break down a gritty Newcastle defence.

More EPL Matchday 3 Tips
Chelsea vs Luton (Saturday 5am AEST)
Winless through the opening two Matchdays, week 3 offers Chelsea their best chance of getting off the mark this season. They take on newly-promoted Luton who were thumped 4-1 by Brighton in their only match to date. Chelsea should be winning this and there should be plenty of goals in it too.

Manchester United vs Nottingham (Sunday 12am AEST)
Manchester United put in a poor performance against Tottenham last start but return home to Old Trafford this weekend where they won in their opening game. The Red Devils defence has looked shaky thus far and Nottingham come to town having scored three goals in their two matches. This make the Both Teams to Score market stand out as value here.

Arsenal vs Fulham (Sunday 12am AEST)
Arsenal were hard to stop at home last season and have started this campaign in winning form. They should have the clear edge against Fulham who were smashed 3-0 at home against the Bees last weekend. The Gunners should be winning this one without much fuss.

Everton vs Wolves (Sunday 12am AEST)
Everton were lucky to survive relegation last season but don’t look to have learned their lesson. They’ve put in two very ordinary performances to date and are no guarantees to get anything out of their clash with the Wolves. Taking the underdogs at better than 3-1 odds looks be the value play on this occasion.
Wolves to Win ($3.10 at Bet365)
Brentford vs Crystal Palace (Sunday 12am AEST)
Brentford have looked the goods in both matches to date and were far too strong against Fulham in a 3-0 win last start. Back at home and taking on an untrustworthy Crystal Palace, it’s hard not to like their chances of securing three more points. Take the home side to get the win here.

Sheffield vs Manchester City (Sunday 11pm AEST)
Manchester City have won both of their matches to nil to start the season, including one against potential contenders in Newcastle last weekend. City have been the dominant side in the EPL for the best part of a decade and don’t look to be slowing down any time soon. Take them to win to nil again when they take on the newly-promoted Blades.

Burnley vs Aston Villa (Sunday 11pm AEST)
Aston Villa bounced back from an embarrassing 5-1 defeat in week one with a dominant 4-0 win against Everton last weekend. They’ve quietly put together a quality starting XI and should have the edge against Burnley in their Matchday 3 clash despite being the visiting side.
