EPL 2022-23 Season Preview & Betting Tips
EPL Outright
It was a race in two for the Premier League title last season and all signs lead to this campaign being exactly the same. You could argue that Liverpool have gotten stronger again with the signing of Darwin Nunez, while there’s no argument whatsoever that the Citizens are a stronger outfit after securing Erling Haaland’s signature. Outside of Liverpool and Manchester City, you’d be hard-pressed to form a legitimate case for another team winning the title this season.
So, which of the two will be crowned champions of 2022-23? Manchester City are the odds-on favourites to defend their title yet again and I have to say I agree with the bookies on this occasion. The #9 position was the only one where they lacked superstar quality and they’ve gone and added one of the top strikers in the world in Haaland. It may take a couple of matches for their attack to gel at their optimum level, but it’s a long season and their track record in recent years is second to none.
Top Goal Scorer
Despite their enormous success in the EPL over the past 10 years, Manchester City have only had one Golden Boot winner and that came back in the 2014-15 season courtesy of Sergio Aguero. However, Haaland is on the top line of betting in what will be his first season in the league at around a $4 quote at most bookies. Haaland was a goal-scoring machine in his three seasons in the Bundesliga, bagging 62 goals from 67 games, and while that league doesn’t quite have the depth that the Premier League has, it’s still one of the top five league in the world. The 22-year-old Norweigian will lead the attack on a weekly basis for the Citizens and as long as he can make the most of his chances, I see him being very hard to beat in the Golden Boot race this season.
Most Assists
Mo Salah was incredible last season when winning the Golden Boot as well as finishing with the most assists in the league with 13. He should be in the mix again this season for most assists but isn’t my top pick in the market. Instead, I lover the value of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne to reclaim the title he won three seasons ago when he had 16 assists in 28 matches. He’s recorded more assists than anyone in the Premier League over the last three seasons and the only thing stopping him from winning this award every season is durability. De Bruyne has played 25, 26 and 30 matches in the last three seasons, but enters this campaign fully fit and will play in a City team that has a little less depth in his position than in previous seasons. So, with everything considered, I’m happy to be on him to generate the most assists at surprisingly good odds.
