EPL 2022-23: Matchday 4 Preview & Betting Tips

August 25th 2022, 1:46pm, By: Jack Tobin

EPL Matchday 4 Betting Tips

Last week's EPL action threw up some remarkable results with Liverpool and Chelsea losing, while Man City was held to a draw. Will we see some more upsets this weekend? Jack Tobin has you covered with his EPL Tips for Matchday 4!

EPL 2022-23: Matchday 4 Preview & Betting Tips

Brighton vs Leeds United

American Express Community Stadium, Sunday 28th August, 12:00am (AEST)

The two biggest surprise packages of the season so far face off on Sunday morning as Leeds travel south to take on Brighton. Both sides have picked up seven of a possible nine points so far, with Leeds in third and Brighton in fifth place on the Premier League table.

Leeds are coming off a stunning 3-0 victory over Chelsea, with a stunning four minute burst that saw goals from Brenden Aaronson and Rodrigo blew the game wide open. Rodrigo is in red hot form, with four goals from three games which sees him leading the golden boot race. Brighton picked up a 2-0 victory away at West Ham on Matchday 3, with Graham Potter’s men going 2-1-0 against Man United, Newcastle and West Ham - All sides who finished in the top eleven last season.

Brighton are undefeated against Leeds in the Premier League since Leeds’ return with two wins and two draws from four games since 2021. The Seagulls have been excellent at the Amex, currently undefeated in their last five home games in the Premier League. Both teams have had excellent starts to the season and although Leeds just beat Chelsea, Brighton have had a higher quality of opposition across their three games. Brighton will be too good at home for Leeds.

Liverpool vs Bournemouth

Anfield, Sunday 28th August, 12:00am (AEST)

An embarrassing loss to archrivals Manchester United has Liverpool reeling, with just two points from a possible nine to begin the season for Jurgen Klopp’s men. With their opening three games coming against Fulham, Crystal Palace and Man United, they would have expected to take all night points, in what has been a dent to their title aspirations already.

After an upset win on Matchday 1 against Aston Villa, Bournemouth have suffered consecutive losses against Man City (4-0) and Arsenal (3-0). It doesn’t get any easier for the Cherries with a clash at Anfield against a Liverpool side that will be fired up. Along with West Ham, Bournemouth have the worst goal difference in the Premier League with -5.

Liverpool are 8-1-1 in Premier League fixtures against Bournemouth, with the Reds coming into this clash on the back of six consecutive wins against Bournemouth. The aggregate score in those six games was 19-1, and you can expect the Reds to come out and deliver another ruthless performance against the Cherries.

Liverpool -2.5

Arsenal vs Fulham

Emirates Stadium, Sunday 28th August, 2:30am (AEST)

Arsenal are the only team with a perfect record in the Premier League, sitting atop the table with nine points. The Gunners will be looking to make it four from four when they host Fulham at the Emirates on Sunday morning. Fulham were expected to be fighting for survival this season but have had a solid start, sitting in seventh place with a 1-2-0 record.

The Gunners have scored a league high nine goals through the opening three games of the season, with Gabriel Jesus (2), Gabriel Martinelli (2) and Martin Odegaard (2) all with multiple goals. The spread that Arsenal have had this season with five individual goal scorers has been a major strength and will be a key factor for them in their top four aspirations this year.

Arsenal have been utterly dominant against Fulham since 2013, going 6-2-0 in their last eight Premier League matches against Fulham. Although Fulham are yet to be beaten this season, the gap in talent between the two sides is simply too much to overcome for Fulham. Gabriel Jesus has been in inspired form, and it’s going to be a tough ask for Fulham to keep the Arsenal attack out.

Arsenal -1.5

More EPL Matchday 4 Tips

Southampton vs Manchester United (Saturday 9:30pm AEST)

Tough way to open the round from a betting perspective, with two of the most inconsistent teams going head-to-head. One thing that has been a constant for both clubs through three rounds is there have been plenty of goals scored in their matches. That’s a trend I expect to continue here.

Both Teams to Score ($1.57 at Ladbrokes)

Brentford vs Everton (Sunday 12am AEST)

Everton have been a disappointing watch so far and I can’t see their circumstances improving much when they travel to take on Brentford this weekend. The Bees have made a bright start to the season, highlighted by their 4-0 drubbing of United a fortnight ago. They look the goods to get the job done against Everton at home.

Brentford H2H ($2.02 at Ladbrokes)

Chelsea vs Leicester (Sunday 12am AEST)

It’s been a horror start to the season for the Blues in terms of results, but they’ve still shown some good signs in 2/3 of their matches. They get what looks to be an easy kill in Leicester and they should be able to take full advantage of it. I like them at both the -1.5 and -2.5 handicaps.

Chelsea -1.5 ($2.10 at Ladbrokes)

Manchester City vs Crystal Palace (Sunday 12am AEST)

Manchester City dropped points for the first time in quite some time away to the Magpies last weekend but would be pleased they were able to fight back from 3-1 down to finish with a draw. They remain the team to beat this campaign and will be virtually unbeatable on their home deck. They’ll come out with intent after a disappointing result last weekend and look good value to win both halves.

Manchester City Win Both Halves ($2.25 at Ladbrokes)

Aston Villa vs West Ham (Sunday 11pm AEST)

Aston Villa were no match for Palace last weekend and will be hoping to sure things up in defence going forward having already conceded six goals. They take on a Hammers outfit that are yet to score a goal this season, although not for the lack of chances. I expect the dam wall to finally burst and for this to be a high-scoring affair between two attacking sides.

Both Teams to Score ($1.67 at Ladbrokes)

Wolves vs Newcastle (Sunday 12pm AEST)

Wolves failed to score for the second straight match when losing to the Spurs last weekend. They have only one point to their name through three fixtures and now face a Magpies team that is brimming with confidence. Home ground advantage does give the Wolves slightly more hope, but the Magpies are just well over the odds to win this fixture in my opinion.

Newcastle H2H ($2.70 at Ladbrokes)

Nottingham vs Tottenham (Monday 1:30am AEST)

Forest have secured four points from three games which is a terrific start from a side that was odds-on to get relegated. However, they’ve ridden their luck a lot already and will need the gods on their side again if they’re to trouble the Spurs this weekend. I can’t see it happening and am happy to be with the visitors on this occasion.

Tottenham and Over 1.5 Goals ($1.73 at Ladbrokes)
