EPL 2022-23: Matchday 34 Preview & Betting Tips

Manchester United vs Aston Villa

Old Trafford, Sunday 30th May, 11:00pm AEST

Manchester United host Aston Villa at Old Trafford in another massive clash as they continue their push to secure a return to the Champions League. Aston Villa’s rise under Unai Emery has hit its greatest peak, climbing into fifth place on the Premier League table after a 1-0 win over Fulham on Wednesday morning. Villa are currently on a ten game unbeaten run, with an 8-2-0 record, having not lost since the 18th of February.

Coming into their clash against Tottenham on Friday, the Red Devils have won three straight games. After being mauled in a 7-0 defeat against Liverpool, United’s defence has stood up, conceding just two goals across their last five games, including three clean sheets from their last three games. Their defence has improved, however only one of those five games was against a side ranked higher than eighth on the table, and that was a 2-0 defeat to Newcastle. The Red Devils are yet to prove their defensive quality against the better sides in the Premier League.

Both sides are in excellent form, so we’re looking at the over/under in this matchup. In the last sixteen Premier League meetings between Villa and United twelve of the games have resulted in a total of over 2.5 goals. When these sides meet, there’s always plenty of goals, and despite United’s strong defensive form in the league, their performance last week in the Europa League shows that they can struggle defensively against good teams.

Liverpool vs Tottenham

Anfield, Monday 1st May, 1:30am AEST

It’s another big test for Tottenham, as they head to Anfield to take on Liverpool, with top four out of reach for both sides, the battle will be claiming fifth place and a position in the Europa League. It’s the third consecutive game Spurs have played against a top seven side on the table. Jurgen Klopp’s men have won three games in a row after taking care of West Ham in a 2-1 victory on Wednesday morning.

Tottenham have been atrocious against the best sides in the league, holding a 1-0-8 against the top seven sides on the table. Three out of a possible 27 points does not stack up when battling for a spot in the top four. It’s impossible to have any trust in a Tottenham side that has conceded nine goals across their last two games. Spurs have conceded 56 goals, the sixth most goals in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool have had the wood over Tottenham, going unbeaten in their last nine Premier League games against Spurs, winning seven of those nine games. With Liverpool having an extra day of recovery in comparison to Spurs from their Matchday 33 fixtures, Liverpool will have an advantage to better run out this game. With the way Tottenham are defending at the moment, paired with their form against the top seven, Liverpool will be far too strong for an out of form Spurs side.

Arsenal vs Chelsea

Emirates Stadium, Wednesday 2nd May, 5:00am AEST

Arsenal will be looking to keep their title hopes alive when they host a struggling Chelsea outfit at the Emirates. Chelsea are winless in their last five games heading into their clash against Brentford on Thursday morning, in a season that continues to go from bad to worse. Frank Lampard during the week confirmed Reece James and Mason Mount will be out for the remainder of season, adding to Chelsea’s depth issues.

At the time of writing Arsenal look set to be defeated by Manchester City, meaning the Gunners will likely have just a two point lead over City who have two games in hand on the league leaders. Three draws and a loss in their last four games after being eight points clear has been quite a remarkable collapse from the Gunners. Fortunately for Arsenal, Chelsea are winless in their last six games, including a 2-0 loss on Thursday morning against Brentford. Chelsea have the sixteenth ranked attack in the Premier League, and have scored only two goals in their last four games.

Facing off against the second most prolific attacking side in the league, it’s going to be a tall task trying to keep pace with Arsenal. Chelsea are a complete mess at the moment with off field and on field dramas creating chaos at the club in a season which they’re desperate for to end. Mikel Arteta’s men have given up their advantage in the title race, and will be desperate to keep their hopes alive with a win over Chelsea.

More EPL Matchday 34 Tips

Crystal Palace vs West Ham (Saturday 9:30pm AEST)

Regardless of ladder position in recent seasons, these two teams have always played competitive matches against each other. The Both Teams to Score market has hit in each of their last five league meetings and I expect that trend to continue.

Brentford vs Nottingham (Sunday 12am AEST)

Brentford got themselves back onto the winners list midweek with a 2-0 win over the horribly out-of-form Chelsea. They now have a chance to double the dose against Forest who have haven’t won on the road since January. The Bees are the deserving favourites at home and should be able to negotiate the win.

Brighton vs Wolves (Sunday 12am AEST)

Brighton suffered a shock loss against Forest midweek but finally return home this weekend after playing away for four straight league matches. They now take on the Wolves who have found some form with wins in three of their last four, which makes this a tricky game to predict. However, both of these teams have scored at least once in eight straight league matches, which makes the Both Teams to Score market great value.

Bournemouth vs Leeds (Sunday 11pm AEST)

Both Bournemouth and Leeds have been struggling to keep the ball out of the back of the net over their past couple of matches, which immediately leads us to the Over 2.5 Goals market. On top of that, the earlier fixture between these teams this season finished as a seven-goal thriller.

Over 2.5 Goals ($1.85 at Betr)

Fulham vs Manchester City (Sunday 11pm AEST)

Manchester City are absolutely flying right now and have won seven straight league matches. Still, they’ve only been able to keep two clean sheets during that stretch, and none in their last four games. This makes the Both Teams to Score market stand out as value in this one.

Both Teams to Score ($1.87 at Ladbrokes)

Newcastle vs Southampton (Sunday 11pm AEST)

Newcastle are in great form and look destined to finish the season in the top four and qualify for the Champions League. On the other end of the spectrum we have Southampton who can’t buy a win at the moment. This has all the makings of a one-sided affair at St. James’ Park.

Newcastle -1.5 ($2.10 at Neds)

Leicester vs Everton (Tuesday 5am AEST)

The Foxes have stemmed the bleeding in their last two matches where they’ve picked up 4/6 points. They now get the perfect opportunity to build some momentum when they shot Everton who are winless in five league matches. The Foxes have the better form and should be winning this one.
