EPL 2022-23: Matchday 25 Preview & Betting Tips
Leicester vs Arsenal
King Power Stadium, Sunday 26th February, 2:00am AEDT
The title race swung back in Arsenal’s favour after City’s draw with Nottingham Forest. The Gunners sit top of the league two points clear of City, with a game in hand on the defending champions. Arsenal has a golden opportunity to keep their grip on the title race when they travel to King Power Stadium to take on Leicester. The Foxes were torn to shreds by Manchester United in the second half last week in a 3-0 defeat.
Leicester’s defence was all over the place against Manchester United, as it has been for the majority of this season. The Foxes have the nineteenth ranked defence having conceded 41 goals this season, and face a tough challenge against the league leaders who have scored 51 goals this season, the second most in the league. It’s difficult to see Leicester finding a way to contain a star-studded Gunners front three, given they haven’t kept a clean sheet since November 2022.
Leicester have a 2-1-5 record in their last eight Premier League games, and that form simply doesn’t stack up against a quality outfit like Arsenal. The Gunners have also had the wood over Leicester, having won their last four Premier League fixtures against the Foxes. Arsenal will maintain their breathing room atop the Premier League table, with a comfortable win against Leicester.
Bournemouth vs Manchester City
Vitality Stadium, Sunday 26th February, 4:30am AEDT
Manchester City heads to Bournemouth for a must win clash to keep the title race alive. The defending champions dominated the clash with 73% possession and 23 shots to 4, however an 84th minute equaliser from Chris Wood saw City walk away with just one point. Bournemouth managed to climb out of the relegation zone with a 1-0 win over Wolves on Matchday 24, but face a near impossible task to avoid falling back this weekend.
This matchup pits the league's worst defence in Bournemouth (44 goals conceded), against the best attacking team in the league in Manchester City (60 goals). Not only only have Bournemouth struggled in defence, they’ve only scored 20 goals this season. To highlight the stark contrast between these two sides, Erling Haaland has scored 26 goals by himself this season. There is a massive discrepancy between these two clubs at both ends of the pitch, and it looms as a nightmare matchup for Bournemouth.
City have an imposing record against the Cherries, having never lost to them in the Premier League. In eleven meetings, Manchester City have an 11-0-0 head-to-head record against Bournemouth, with an aggregate score of 34-5. It’s been nothing short of utter domination every time these teams have faced off, and everything points towards this occurring again. Pep Guardiola’s side will be desperate to bounce back after dropping points last week, and things could get ugly for Bournemouth quickly in this clash.

Tottenham vs Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Monday 27th February, 12:30am AEDT
Matchday 25 concludes with an all-London clash between Tottenham and Chelsea. Spurs worked their way into the top four after a 2-0 win over West Ham last week. Chelsea’s season continues to get worse after a 1-0 loss against bottom of the league Southampton, which sees Graham Potter’s side in tenth position on the table.
Chelsea come into this clash with a 2-4-6 record across their last twelve matches in the Premier League, in what has been a horror show since Graham Potter was appointed as manager. On the contrary, Tottenham have won three of their last four games and look primed to make fourth position their own with Newcastle fading as the season goes on. Chelsea’s struggles have come at the attacking end of the pitch, with their inability to convert chances being a major issue. In their last twelve games, Chelsea have scored two goals only once, and have failed to score in seven games.
Tottenham have bounced back after a mid-season drop, but they’ve steadied, with Harry Kane leading the charge once again. The Tottenham skipper sits second in the Golden Boot race with seventeen goals, Kane scored the last time these sides faced off back in August. This game sees one of the most out of form sides in the league, taking on an in-form Tottenham outfit, and Spurs provide excellent value in this clash. If Tottenham score first, it’s going to be a long way back for a Chelsea side that has struggled to score this season.

Fulham vs Wolves (Saturday 7am AEDT)
Fulham pulled off yet another impressive win last weekend when they got the better of Brighton. They’ve now won six of their last nine matches and have only conceded four goals during that span. In contrast, Wolves lost to the lowly Cherries last weekend, which was a disappointing result after a couple of good wins in a row. Simply put, Fulham should be winning this at home on current form.

Everton vs Aston Villa (Sunday 2am AEDT)
Everton made it two wins from three matches under Sean Dyche with a 1-0 victory against Leeds last weekend. It’s been a necessary return to form for the Toffees who are still only one point outside the relegation zone. They have a fantastic opportunity to secure another three points when they take on an Aston Villa outfit that have lost three on the spin and have conceded 11 goals in that stretch. I expect them to be able to negotiate the win at home.

Leeds vs Southampton (Sunday 2am AEDT)
Southampton inflicted more pain on Chelsea with a 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge last weekend. It was an unexpected result considering they had lost three in a row heading in. The Saints now face Leeds who are without a win in their last 10 league matches. The visitors should be getting at least a point out of this fixture.

West Ham vs Nottingham (Sunday 2am AEDT)
The Hammers are having a horror season and it only got worse last weekend with a 2-0 loss against Tottenham. They’ve now won just one of their last 11 league fixtures and are currently sitting in 18th on the table. In this sort of form, the Hammers have no business being odds-on favourites against a Forest side that has been in good form of late. I like the visitors to at least draw this one.

Crystal Palace vs Liverpool (Sunday 6:45am AEDT)
Liverpool took a couple of steps forward with back-to-back wins against Everton and Newcastle, but took a huge step backwards midweek when they were humiliated 5-2 by Real Madrid in the Champions League. The Reds have been extremely inconsistent this season and are almost impossible to back, particularly at the odds-on price away from home. Instead, I’ll be taking Palace in the Double Chance market.
