EPL 2022-23: Matchday 24 Preview & Betting Tips
Aston Villa vs Arsenal
Villa Park, Saturday 18th February, 11:30pm AEDT
Just a couple of weeks ago Arsenal had a complete stranglehold on the title race after beating Manchester United. Since then, Arsenal have had two losses and a draw which has seen them fall into second, although they do have a game in hand on Manchester City. The Gunners cannot afford to drop points for a fourth consecutive game when they travel to Villa Park on Saturday evening.
Aston Villa come into this fixture on the back of consecutive defeats to Leicester and Manchester City, in what has been a difficult season following the sacking of Steven Gerrard back in October. Arsenal are the second most prolific attacking side in the league this season with 47 goals, however they’ve scored just three goals across their three game winless run that they’re in the midst of.
Arsenal have won their last three Premier League matches against Villa, and are 9-0-3 across the last thirteen times the two sides have faced off. The Gunners will be desperate to bounce back and remain level on points with City, to keep their advantage with a game in hand. Despite the injury issues Arsenal have at the moment, they’ve got too much top end talent for Villa to contain.
Newcastle vs Liverpool
St James’ Park, Sunday 19th February, 4:30am AEDT
After spending the majority of the season sitting comfortably in third position on the Premier League table, Newcastle are now vulnerable to falling out of the top four. The Magpies have drawn their last three games against 18th placed Bournemouth, 16th placed West Ham and 12th placed Crystal Palace. Newcastle have a game in hand on Tottenham in fifth, however they’re only two points ahead of them.
Liverpool ended a four-game winless run with a comprehensive victory over Everton in the Merseyside Derby. The Reds dominated the game registering 15 shots to Everton’s 6, along with recording 60% possession. Jurgen Klopp’s side also recorded a much-needed clean sheet, after being in some horrible form at the back in their winless streak.
The Reds have had the wood over Newcastle for a long time, having not lost to the Magpies since 2016. In that timespan Liverpool hold a 7-4-0 record against Newcastle, including a 2-1 victory over Eddie Howe’s men earlier in the season. Newcastle are stagnating as the season has gone on, and it’s typical of a side that hasn’t been in the position on the table that they find themselves in. Liverpool are well positioned to cause an upset in this clash, and they will extend their unbeaten streak against Newcastle.
Tottenham vs West Ham
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Monday 20th February, 3:30am AEDT
Tottenham missed a golden opportunity to jump into the top four, after being hammered by Leicester on Matchday 23. It was a bizarre performance given just a week earlier they’d knocked off Manchester City, and they’ll be desperate to bounce back against their London rivals. West Ham were bailed out by a horrific piece of officiating as Tomas Soucek blocked a shot on goal with his hand late in the game, which should have been a clear penalty. It went uncalled, and the Hammers picked up their second consecutive draw.
The ability forward of the centre is the big differentiating factor in this clash. Tottenham are the third highest scoring team in the league this season with 42 goals, while West Ham ranks sixteenth with just 19 goals from 22 games. To highlight the difference in the attacking capacity, Harry Kane sits second in the golden boot race with 17 goals, that’s just two less goals than the entire West Ham squad has scored this season.
West Ham have won only one of their last ten games in the Premier League, with a 1-4-6 record across those ten games. The last two matches between these two clubs resulted in a 1-1 draw and a 3-1 win for Spurs, and despite a disappointing loss in their last clash, expect a bounce back from Tottenham. If Spurs score first it’s going to be a long way back for a West Ham side that has struggled to score all season long, Tottenham will be too good in this fixture.

More EPL Matchday 24 Tips
Brentford vs Crystal Palace (Sunday 2am AEDT)
Now 10 games unbeaten in the league and sporting a three-game win streak at home, the Bees will be full of confidence ahead of their battle with Palace. In contrast, Palace have won only one of their last nine games and have picked up just six points during that span. The Bees are clearly the form team in this matchup and should be winning at home.

Brighton vs Fulham (Sunday 2am AEDT)
Brighton would be disappointed they only came away with one point against Palace last weekend – a team struggling right now. Regardless, the Gulls are now unbeaten in five league matches and have won three of them. On current form and on their home deck, they should be too good for Fulham on this occasion.

Chelsea vs Southampton (Sunday 2am AEDT)
Chelsea finally managed to find the back of the net last weekend after two league matches without a goal. Still, they failed to win and have now only secured two victories from their last 13 Premier League games. Scoring has been a massive issue for the Blues which has seen the Under 2.5 Goals market salute in nine of their last 10 games. I expect more of the same in this one.
Under 2.5 Goals ($1.79 at Ladbrokes)
Everton vs Leeds (Sunday 2am AEDT)
The Toffees had their chances but weren’t able to capitalise in the Merseyside Derby, going down 2-0 last weekend. Still, their effort and intensity has been a lot better under Sean Dyche thus far. They now take on a Leeds outfit that hasn’t tasted success in the league since the beginning of November. I like the chances of Everton getting another win on Sunday morning.
Everton ($2.45 at Neds)
Nottingham vs Manchester City (Sunday 2am AEDT)
The wheels are now well and truly turning for Manchester City. They were too good for the Gunners in a top-of-the-table clash in Matchday 23 and have overtaken them for first spot as a result. Their current form has been close to their best this season and as along as it continues this weekend, they’ll be far too good for Nottingham.
Manchester City -1.5 ($1.84 at Betr)
Wolves vs Bournemouth (Sunday 2am AEDT)
The Wolves are flying at the minute with three wins in their past four league matches. They secured three points away at Southampton last weekend – a perfect way to back up their amazing win over Liverpool. Now, Bournemouth come to town and they’ve gained just two points from their last seven games. The Wolves should have the clear edge in this matchup.
Wolves ($1.65 at Ladbrokes)
Manchester United vs Leicester (Sunday 2am AEDT)
Manchester United and Leicester will lock horns in one of the best fixtures of the round. Leicester have banged in eight goals from their last two matches and Manchester United have scored 2+ in four straight games. This should make for an attacking affair, making the Over 2.5 Goals market the best bet.
