EPL 2022-23: Matchday 11 Preview & Betting Tips
Tottenham vs Everton
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunday 16th October, 3:30am AEDT
Three wins from their last four games sees Tottenham sitting in third place on the Premier League table, with a golden opportunity to continue their good form when they take on Everton. The Toffees’ two game winning streak came to an end after a 2-1 defeat against Manchester United on Matchday 11.
Tottenham’s improvement this season has come on the back of being consistent at both ends of the pitch. Spurs have the equal second-best defence in the league (10 goals conceded), along with being the equal third highest scoring team (20 goals scored). Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son have been outstanding, the reliance on the star duo hasn’t been as heavy as it has been in previous seasons.
Everton have scored only nine goals from nine games this season, for comparison Harry Kane has scored eight. Although Everton have been a vastly improved defensive outfit in Frank Lampard’s first season in charge, they don’t have the attacking weapons to challenge a Spurs side that has been incredibly consistent to start the season.

Manchester United vs Newcastle
Old Trafford, Monday 17th October, 12:00am AEDT
Old Trafford plays host to a battle of fifth vs sixth, as Manchester United take on Newcastle on Monday morning. The Red Devils have won four of their last five Premier League matches, while Newcastle are unbeaten in their last four games. Manchester United fought back after conceding early last week against Everton, with the 2-1 victory highlighted by Cristiano Ronaldo’s first goal of the season.
Newcastle have been utterly dominant in the last fortnight, with 4-1 and 5-1 wins over Fulham and Brentford. The Magpies have the equal best defence (9 goals conceded) and the fourth most prolific attack (18 goals scored). The key for Newcastle is containing Manchester United’s Antony, who became the first player in the club’s history to score in his first three league games for the Red Devils.
Despite Newcastle’s hot form, they’ve struggled badly against Manchester United in recent seasons. The Magpies are 0-1-4 in their last five Premier League fixtures against the Red Devils, with an aggregate score of 16-5 in favour of Manchester United. Ten Haag’s side is continuing to evolve each week, and they’ll be full of confidence against a side they’ve dominated over the past few seasons.

Liverpool vs Manchester City
Anfield, Monday 17th October 2:30am AEDT
The two best sides of the past five seasons will add another chapter to their rivalry when Manchester City travels to Anfield to take on Liverpool. The Reds are in crisis mode, sitting in tenth place with no wins from their last three games. City aren’t facing any such struggles, with a 7-2-0 record which has the reigning champions second on the Premier League table.
City have hit some serious form across their last six games with score lines of 4-2, 6-0, 1-1, 3-0, 6-3 and 4-0 - Five wins and one draw, with an aggregate score of 24-6. Manchester City have scored a league high 33 goals, 10 more than the next best side, and they’ve got the equal best defence (9 goals conceded) to pair with their scintillating attack.
Liverpool’s struggles this season have largely come from the drop off their defence has had this season. After being a top five defence for the last six seasons, including three seasons as the best defence in the league, Liverpool are the twelfth ranked defence in season ‘22/’23. The defending champions are unbeaten in their last four Premier League games against the Reds, and it’s difficult to see a struggling Liverpool defence containing Erling Haaland and a star-studded City attack.

Brentford vs Brighton (Saturday 6am AEDT)
The Bees were embarrassed for the second time in three league fixtures when they were defeated 5-1 by the Magpies last start. They’ve now conceded multiple goals in five of their nine games, which is reason for concern. They won’t find it easy against the Seagulls this weekend either, as they’ve lost only twice this season and both defeats have been by a solitary goal. The visitors are the more solid of the two teams and are the deserving favourites.

Leicester vs Crystal Palace (Saturday 10:30pm AEDT)
After a nightmare start to the season, the Foxes teased fans with an impressive 4-0 win against Forest a couple of weeks ago. However, it may just have been an anomaly as they were quickly brought back down to earth by the Cherries. Crystal Palace visits the King Power this weekend in hope of backing up their win over Leeds, which is a feat they should be able to achieve if they bring something close to their best.

Fulham vs Bournemouth (Sunday 1am AEDT)
Fulham have been leaking goals for fun of late and have now conceded 11 from their last four league matches. They’ve kept just one clean sheet so far this season, which makes them a bottom three defence in the league. The Cherries have kept three clean sheets themselves, but only one from their past four matches. There should be plenty of goals in this one.

Wolves vs Nottingham (Sunday 1am AEDT)
The Wolves attack continues to struggle and they’re now three matches without a goal. In fact, they’ve kicked just three all season at a rate of 0.33 per game. Their opponents, Forest, have managed to bang a few goals in, but their defence has been next level bad. They’ve conceded 17 goals from their last five matches and desperately need a couple of good results their way. Unfortunately, I don’t think it will be this weekend.

Aston Villa vs Chelsea (Monday 12am AEDT)
Aston Villa are now four league matches undefeated and look to be trending in the right direction. However, they host the Blues who have won three on the spin and four of their last five and who look to be full of confidence right now. With both teams having their tail up, I’m expecting a competitive and high-scoring affair, particularly when you consider there were seven goals scored in their two meetings last season.

Leeds vs Arsenal (Monday 12am AEDT)
Leeds are on a horrible run at the moment having collected only two points from their last five matches. Their last two losses have been against average sides in the Bees and Palace, which is an ominous sign with the Gunners coming to visit this weekend. The Gunners are top of the table for a reason and should be far too good for Leeds on this occasion.
Arsenal -1.5 ($2.50 at Ladbrokes)
Southampton vs West Ham (Monday 12am AEDT)
The Saints have lost four straight league matches and have only scored one goal in the process. This run has seen them drop to 17th on the table and only three points from the bottom. They have another tough task on their hands with West Ham coming to town on a three-match winning streak. The Hammers’ confidence is building and they look good value to close out the round.
