EPL Matchday 21 Betting Tips
Brighton & Hove Albion vs Chelsea
Wednesday, 11:30pm AEDT
Brighton were impressive winners when they hosted Bournemouth on the weekend, defeating them 2-0 with Aaron Mooy the clear man of the match. The Gulls snapped a four-game winless run in the process and are now into 13th spot on the table as we head into the new year.
Chelsea came from a goal down away to Arsenal on the weekend to eventually win 2-1. Jorginho and Tammy Abraham both found the back of the net in the final 10 minutes to make it back to back wins against fellow top six teams. Chelsea hold onto fourth on the table and are four points clear of fifth placed Manchester United.
Although Brighton were winners on the back of a strong performance last time out, we don’t see them besting Chelsea in this one. The Blues have been fantastic away from home this season (7-0-3) with their 21 points on bettered by Liverpool (25). If they play close to their best, then Chelsea should be too good in this fixture.
Burnley vs Aston Villa
Wednesday, 11:30pm AEDT
Burnley were outclassed by Manchester United on the weekend in their 2-0 home loss. That loss saw the Clarets drop down to 13th spot on the ladder as we approach the new year. The good thing for Burnley is they remain at home again this round and have a chance to better their 5-0-5 record that they’ve amassed in front of their home fans.
Aston Villa came up against a fellow battler in Watford on the weekend and it didn’t end well for them. Villa lost for the fifth time in their last six league games and are now in 18th spot on the table and are just five points in front of last placed Norwich at the halfway point of the season.
Burnley certainly haven’t found any great consistency in their performance this season, but they’ve still been far better than Aston Villa. Villa have managed to secure just four points from 10 away fixtures this campaign and we can’t see them getting anything out of their trip to Burnley this week.
Liverpool vs Sheffield United
Friday 7am AEDT
Liverpool have overcome a tricky period of their schedule and now sit very, very pretty at the top of the table. They were winners at home against the Wolves on the weekend, making it four league clean sheets on the spin. Now with a comfortable run of games coming up, Liverpool look uncatchable in the title race.
Sheffield United had the extremely tough fixture away to Manchester City on the weekend and eventually went down 2-0. That loss was just Sheffield’s fourth of the season and only Liverpool have lost less games so far. The Blades are currently sitting in eighth spot on the table and would be happy with how things have gone in their first season back in England’s topflight.
Liverpool are at the peak of their powers at the moment and will host Sheffield at Anfield where they haven’t lost in three years. The Reds have looked rock solid at the back in recent weeks and if they bring their usual intensity, then we can see them winning to nil once again.
