Eagle Farm Racing Tips: Saturday, March 23rd 2024
Race 3: Ace Plate Class 3 - 2:08pm (AEDT)
(15) Ocean Zar $3.40: total forgive LS when she was forced right back from a wide gate and then pulled up with the thumps. Meets a few key rivals out of that race better at the weights and draws gate 2 which is a big tick (FIVE CROWNS and ALL’S FAIR both since won). Although she tends to settle back in her races, she normally jumps on terms with them, so I hope they’re a bit more positive from the gate and can settle midfield or better. Her run two-back was visually very impressive over this track/trip and the race has stacked up with 3 subsequent winners coming out of it. She goes best on top of the ground but has run well on soft tracks so she should be able to handle it (don’t want it too wet). She can hit back hard.
(9) Brookhaven $4.20: 4YO gelding who looks to only improve out to 1400m now. First up made ground late, but ran out of distance to pick them up. Will only improve and this distance looks ideal. Goes well.
(15) Ocean Zar
$3.40 (2.5 Units)
Race 6: Moree Desperates Hcp Class 6 1400M – 2:58pm (AEDT)
(13) Apophis $3.70: lightly raced 5YO who looks a nice type. Excellent return first-up when he began awkwardly, went back near last, and then hooked widest to pick them all up. He reeled off the fastest 8-600m, 4-600m, and 4-200m splits of the meeting that day and came home some 8.6L above all average benchmarks. That was a month ago so he’s had a trial since to keep him ticking over. He’s unbeaten on soft tracks, won over this track/trip LS, and plummets 5.5kgs to help offset the rise in grade. Draws a beautiful gate and I have him mapped in behind the leaders if he doesn’t begin awkwardly again. Has upside.
(8) Red Rubi $11/$3.00: 6YO mare who returned nicely last start in open class. Drops back now to this grade and boasts a terrific record on the soft deck and over this distance. Only improves second up. Good value each way pick.
(13) Apophis
$3.70 (2 Units)
Race 7: Ethos Ordthodontics BM78 1200m–4:48pm (AEDT)
(1) Bubba’s Bay $3.10: one of the best bets of the day in QLD! Two-back she ran third to BLUE SPINEL over this track/trip when she got taken on for the lead and then was held up for large portions of the straight / raced tight. She then went to Doomben LS and dictated the race from OSL before giving a big kick on straightening to win by 3.4L (quickest 4-200m and L200m splits of the race / EN POINTE and BOWRIDER have since won / good form race). She’ll roll forward from a nice gate, gets in well at the weights after the claim, handles all conditions, and has a good record at the track. I think she’s very well placed and will be hard to beat again. Keen.
(7) Tojaki $5.50: 4YO mare who returns to racing here and has great first up, distance and weather effected form. Early market support which is shows she is in good order. One for the exotics.
