Cranbourne Racing Tips: Friday, May 24th
Best Bet: Race 4 - (5) Jungle Jane
Lay Of The Day: Race 4 - (11) Tinszel
Race 1: 2YO Maiden Plate 1000m
Selections scratched.
Race 2: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1200m
(7) Reset All was one of the biggest tragedies I have seen beaten this calendar year on debut. It was the first race on the new track at Ballarat, she jumped well, was bolting in behind the leaders early in the straight and never got a run. The swoopers were pouncing when the jock had to go from behind leader, angle back and lose all momentum to a clear last and out of screen. You expected her to stay there with less than a furlong to run, but as they neared the line, she flashed up again late out wide to get third. Amazing that she could be held-up so badly and lose so much momentum and still place. There will be resistance from the Godolphin first-starters no doubt.
Race 3: Maiden Plate Set Weights 1400m
(4) Prince Artie has been to the races twice and was unplaced at both of them. He ran on well on debut then was never in it last time here at the track in a race that was suited by the on-pacers. He gets a good track for the first time, the blinkers get applied so hopefully he can settle a lot closer. From the good draw if he can be mid-field in the run he should be finishing as good as any in an open race.
Race 4: Fillies and Mares Maiden Plate Set Weights 1600m
(5) Jungle Jane has placed at three of her four career runs, the latest of those was here when resuming three weeks ago. She at up on the speed, well away from the fence into the straight and although she was a little flat-footed, stuck on well late. The horse that finished 8th in that race came out and bolted in on the synthetic at Ballarat last week, and the horse that finished behind her was Prince Artie who we have tipped in the previous. That should give us a good indication. The main opposition in the betting will probably be (11) Tinszel and (12) Wild Breeze. The former looks the lay of the night, she has been beaten 10L at both starts, sure she has had excuses but from 11, with only a fair trial in between runs, you couldn’t have her anywhere under each-way odds.
Race 5: BM64 Handicap 1300m
Selection scratched.
Race 6: Super VOBIS BM78 Handicap 1600m
Not a lot of confidence here but (6) Thoughtful Harmony deserves another chance. She won her first two this prep, then failed horribly here a fortnight ago. She obviously had issues, firstly she didn’t handle the heavy track and with the tongue-tie applied, suggests she had an issue there as well. In a race where it could be each-way the field, she is worth a small bet.
(6) Thoughtful Harmony
$6.00
Race 7: Fillies and Mares BM70 Handicap 1400m
Again, not a lot of confidence as I would prefer to take on (3) Dancing Tycoon who is likely to be near the top of the betting. She was beaten by a smart one last time but she was very plain and is deep into her prep. (4) Riverina Lass was poor resuming but that’s her go, and the heavy track probably didn’t assist. She was racing really well at the back-end of her last prep, back on a good track, out in trip and the likelihood of a few of them going forward, the speed should be on. Look for her to get the suck run and run on well at big odds.
(4) Riverina Lass to place
$3.30
Race 8: Super VOBIS BM78 Handicap 2540m
The staying race of the night could turn into a battle of tactics with most of the chances looking like getting back in the run. When it comes down to a battle of the jocks, I will take D Oliver every time. (3) Chouxting The Mob was super at Sandown last time, he sat back before producing a brilliant finish and was strong through the line. Most of those that are in form are jumping in grade and look vulnerable, however if there is any rain around then (4) Moss ‘n’ Bolt comes into calculations. (5) Bemboka Queen looks a huge lay, he has been up forever and won at 20/1 at 64 grade last time. No thanks!
(3) Chouxting The Mob
$2.70
