All eyes will be on the Cranbourne circuit for their Friday meeting under lights, showcasing an even split of maidens and benchmarks across the 8-race card. The track is currently rated a Good 3 with an expectation it’ll hover around that mark by the time of jump.
The first event kicks off at 6:15 (AEDT) with the last set to round out the meeting at 9:45 (AEDT). Find our best bets below to help build the bank ahead of a star-studded weekend at both Flemington and Rosehill.
Cranbourne Racing Tips: Friday January 19th
Race 5: Rosemont – 8:15 (AEDT)
(5) Master of Chant resumes with a strong first up record alongside his name having won on his Australian debut at the beginning of its last preparation. Finds a prominent draw to be handy early under the whip of Blake Shinn.
(3) Huesca holds favouritism amongst the small field in its return run back from a break. The inside stall will aid his chances in transit, allowing for a sit forward after doing minimal work on the welcomed change of a dried-out track.
(4) Lumber Park is hoping for a change of fortune here after being posted wide at Geelong before walking out of the gates at Terang. Will need an ounce of luck to be in the picture but is more than good enough on its day.
(5) Master of Chant

Race 6: Chris Newman Electrics Hcp – 8:45 (AEDT)
(3) Simeon finds itself back to provincial level after an ordinary Moonee Valley run. Expecting big things here from the locally trained 4yo Gelding who can atone for the Busuttin & Young camp on its home circuit.
(5) Distorted Mission is a touch overs for mine at the double figure quote considering how well he hit the line its previous two starts. Comes into this third up and fitter for both runs this prep, tipping it to run a big race at the price.
(2) So Sleek has been biding his time under the watchful eye of the Maher & Eustace stable, steps out to the 1500m at Cranbourne for the first time which is a query but I’m throwing my faith behind the trainers knowing more than we do.
(3) Simeon

Race 7: Ladbrokes Owners Incentive Scheme – 9:15 (AEDT)
*Scratched* (4) Inthelapofthegods jumps off the page as a big roughie that is expected to lead them up here over the 2025m contest. After sneaking into the money of late, a repeat of the dose wouldn’t shock if it can catch a break on the turn.
(5) Staunch was an eye catcher first up before having to sweep them at Moonee Valley which is never the go, forgive run. Gets it chance here to make amends despite drawing the widest barrier on offer setting a task for jockey Beau Merterns.
(3) Black Penn is suited to this distance and running out the journey will be no issue. Can surprise here in the penultimate event here at Cranbourne having missed out on the hat-trick last start at Mornington.
(4) Inthelapofthegods E/W

Race 8: Good Friday Night Racing Hcp – 9:45 (AEDT)
(5) Dakari earns my on top selection in an affair that has value written all over it. The experience of Jordan Childs in the saddle swayed my judgement here having won on the 4yo Geldings back at Mornington last outing.
(1) Powerbound finds itself a touch awkwardly drawn in the middle gate and with pace on its inside a worry. It poses the question for Michael Dee piloting the Hayes trained Gelding whether to pull the trigger and roll forward or sit back.
(7) Altruist straps up in a winnable race on paper if it can recapture its form of two back where it won in commanding fashion just shy of three lengths. It’s a big ‘if’ but happy to have a throw at the stumps based on its ability.
(5) Dakari
