Event: 2013 John Deere Classic at TPC Deere Run
When: Begins - Thursday, July 11th
With the British Open fast approaching, let’s take a look at the PGA Tour. This week is the John Deere Classic played at the TPC Deere Run in Silvis Illinois.
There are three common themes that go with this event, birdies, Steve Stricker and Zach Johnson. Stricker won three times between 2009-2011, with Zach Johnson right on his tail in 2009 and 2011. Johnson finally broke the voodoo last year winning in a playoff.
TPC Deere Run is a pair 71 course that was ranked fourth easiest ranked on tour. The weather forecast should be perfect for golf and there will be lots of birdies.
Betting golf is obviously not like betting single sporting matches, what with such large fields and big odds, we have to adjust our betting unit amounts. Also keep in mind that with a good couple of rounds and the odds so high, weary punters will be able to lay off some of their action at a sports betting exchange like Betfair.
With that in mind we will be recommending small plays on these five players:
Nick Watney has been in some consistent form and knows the course well. He shot a final round of 66 last year and did not break 70 once.
Odds: $41 at Sportsbet
$40-$48 at Betfair
Australia’s John Senden is among the best ball strikers on the tour that is capable of getting very low. He proved that last year with a low round 64 finishing up the week tied for 4th overall. He will be right there come Sunday.
Odds: $41 at Sportsbet
$50-$60 at Betfair
Jordan Spieth is also in very good form and with many notable players absent this week, these conditions should suit him. Too good and in too good form to overlook at such large odds.
Odds: $31 at Sportsbet
$30-$40 at Betfair
Chris Kirk provides a little bit of value. He is yet to break through on the PGA tour and is knocking at the door. Chris knows this course well and shot in the 60's last year.
Odds: $51 at Sportsbet
$50-$60 at Betfair
Troy Matteson is not currently in the best form, but you can't leave him out at TPC Deere Run after making the play offs last year and also shooting an opening round of 61. We will give him another chance at these huge odds.
Odds: $126 at Sportsbet
$150-$180 at Betfair
