Game: Pittsburgh Pirates (Gerrit Cole) @ Washington Nationals (Taylor Jordan)
When: Wenesday, July 24th at 9.05am AEST - Live ESPN Australia
Market: Pirates ($2.01) Vs. Nationals ($1.84) at Sportsbet
Pittsburgh Pirates got the early jump on the Washington Nationals yesterday and held off a late surge by the Nationals. Final score was 6-5. Today two rookie pitchers will face off. The total came out at 8.0 but was quickly bet to 8.5 this indicates that both rookies are likely to get hit today.
The Pirates' Gerrit Cole started well this season with 4 straight wins but is currently on a 3 game losing streak. I can not see him going the distance today and would be surprised if he made it past thge 6th inning. That would leave the rest of the game up to the Pirates Bullpen which suffered a big loss last night, losing Closer Jason Grilli with an arm injury.
The Nationals' Taylor Jordan will take the mound for the Nationals. He is still searching for his first major win. He is a more versitile pitcher than Cole. He will give the Pirates batting line up some things to think about with his sinker, fastball, changeup and slider.
The Nationals fired hitting coach Rick Eckstein on Monday, just letting everybody at the organization know that they are on notice. At 48-51, the Nationals are underachieving. They get the win here tonight in what could be a high scoing affair.
