Game: Essendon Vs. Port Adelaide (Sunday, June 7th at 4.40 p.m. AEST - Etihad Stadium)
Market: AFL Fantasy Dream Team: Chad Wingard ($1.80) Vs. Justin Westhoff ($1.95) - Sportsbet
Sunday’s AFL Round 15 match between Port Adelaide and Essendon is shaping up to be an interesting one. Plenty of money is coming for Port Adelaide as they have seemingly found the form that saw them start the season with five wins in a row, but Essendon have proven themselves formidable and certainly deserve to start as favourites. It’s a tough game to bet on, but we have found some value outside of the standard match betting with the AFL Fantasy DreamTeam markets at Sportsbet.
In only his second year of AFL, Chad Wingard has consistently been one of Port Adelaide’s best players in 2013. That is especially true of the last five weeks as he has made at least a tonne in AFL Fantasy DreamTeam scoring on four occasions, scoring 88,101,114,106 and 105. Over the season, Wingard has averaged 91.15 DT points.
Wingard’s opponent this week in Sportsbet’s AFL Fantasy DreamTeam market is Justin Westhoff and despite having a season average of 91.38, which is slightly higher than Wingard’s average. However, Westhoff’s average is hugely skewed by massive scores of 100, 154, 140 and 121 in the first four weeks of the season. Since then Westhoff has been extremely inconsistent and a huge headache for AFL Fantasy enthusiasts. In fact, since round 4, Westhoff has only scored more than 100 DT points on only one occasion. Only once! Wingard has managed that feat four times in the last five weeks.
Despite Westhoff managing to find back some form in recent weeks with DT scores of 96, 98, 68 and 110, this hasn’t shown us enough to think that he can beat Wingard’s consistency, especially over the last five weeks.
We aren’t saying that it’s a guarantee Justin Westhoff won’t come out and score 150 DT points like he did earlier in the season, but take into account all of the above, along with the fact that Westhoff has scored under 70 DT points on four occasions this year, while Chad Wingard has only fallen under 70 once and we think there is plenty of value in betting on Wingard to beat Westhoff.
Verdict: Chad Wingard has shown far more consistency in 2013 as compared to Justin Westhoff and as such we are happy to place a small wager on Wingard to beat Westhoff in the AFL Fantasy Dream Team head-to-head markets at Sportsbet.
