AFL Round 18 Preview & Betting Tips
Collingwood vs Fremantle
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, July 15th, MCG
Two teams with contrasting form lines will meet in the first of five matches on Saturday in Round 18, with Collingwood taking on Fremantle at the MCG.
Collingwood passed another tricky test last weekend when taking down the Bulldogs under the roof at Marvel Stadium. Many pundits had the Bulldogs taking it right up to this season’s flag-favourites, and while the 89-77 final score indicates it was a close contest, Collingwood were well in control for the most part and didn’t really look like losing.
Elsewhere, Fremantle failed their latest test when easily succumbing to what appeared to be a more determined Carlton outfit. The Dockers were jumped early in the game and were never able to recover as they eventually fell 45-98 in a wire-to-wire defeat.
The Dockers’ recent loss was their fourth from their past five matches which has seen them slip all the way down to 15th on the ladder. Meanwhile, the Magpies have won four of their last five and remain on top of the table.
Out of form and playing away from home against the ladder-leaders, the task was already extremely difficult for the 7-9 Dockers. However, it just became even tougher with key players Caleb Serong and Brennan Cox both unavailable for selections. For the Magpies, ruckman Darcy Cameron will miss with a sore back, although key tall Dan McStay will return.
Everywhere you look, all signs lead towards another big win for the Magpies. They’ve lost only twice this season and have defeated the Dockers in seven of their last eight meetings at the MCG.
Due to the reasons above, the Magpies are listed as massive 40-point favourites for Saturday afternoon’s clash. As big as that number seems, the Magpies have shown enough firepower this season to suggest they’re more than capable of covering it.

Collingwood to Win – They just win again.
Jamie Elliott 2+ Goals – 11 goals across his last three games. Clearly back in form and should get enough supply.
Luke Ryan 25+ Disposals – Was superb in a bad side last week with 30 kicks. Takes a lot of kickouts and will get plenty of ball again here.
