UEFA Champions League: Round of 16 Betting Tips (1st Leg)
PSG vs Bayern Munich
Parc de Princes, Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
Arguably the best of all the Round of 16 matchups, PSG and Bayern Munich will do battle from Paris in their first leg on Wednesday morning. PSG currently sit atop the Ligue 1 table with a 17-3-3 record, five points clear of their nearest opposition. Their form in the Champions League hasn’t been quite as dominant though, as they managed to finish 2nd in their group, which contained Benfica, Juventus and Maccabi Haifa.
Bayern Munich were untouchable throughout the group stage of the Champions League, finishing with a 6-0-0 record and a ridiculous +16 goal difference. Their form has extended to the Bundesliga, where they too sit atop the table, having lost just one game so far this season.
Like the value of the German side on the road here. Bayern has had their way with PSG in recent meetings, winning four of their last five encounters with a combined goal aggregate of 10-4. Back them to win this one at $2.45.
AC Milan vs Tottenham
Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
Another solid matchup here on Wednesday morning as Italian side AC Milan host Tottenham from 7am. Both of these sides have had some issues in their domestic competition, currently both sittin gin fifth place on the table in their respective leagues.
Tottenham are just a week removed from a monumental win over Manchester City at home, which looked like it was going to be the kickstart to their season and a potential run at the top four in the EPL. However, they backed it up with a disappointing 4-1 loss to Leicester on the road, and now sit two points outside of the top four.
AC Milan snapped a three-game losing streak with a 1-0 win over Torino in their last Serie A matchup. They were just average in the group stage of the UCL as well, winning just three of their six games to finish 2nd in their group. AC Milan have never beaten Tottenham in six previous matchups, with the Spurs winning four of those games. I think the English side are good value with the draw no bet insurance.

Borussia Dortmund vs Chelsea
Signal Iduna Park, Thursday 7am (AEDT)
Another English side will be in action on Thursday morning as Chelsea travel to Germany to take on Borussia Dortmund. Chelsea have had a year to forget in the EPL so far this season, currently sitting in 10th place with an 8-8-7 record. A 10th place finish for the Blues this season would mark their worst result in the Premier League since all the way back in the 1995-96 season.
Dortmund have hit a purple patch in the Bundesliga, winning their last seven straight games to climb into third spot on the table. Across those seven games, they have put up 22 goals, the most of any German team in that stretch.
Chelsea will be without a bunch of key players in the likes of Aubameyang, Kante, Mendya and Pulisic, while Raheem Sterling is also questionable for the clash. Think Dortmund is the smart play here, and its surprising to see them at plus money in this clash.
Liverpool vs Real Madrid
Anfield, Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
Despite their struggles in the Premier League in recent months, Liverpool have been nothing short of spectacular in the Champions League. They’ve won each of their last five matches and have accumulated a goal difference of +14 during that span.
Real Madrid would be content without being pleased with their results in the Champions League this season. They made it to the knockout phase after going 4-1-1 in Group F, which was arguably the weakest group in the competition in terms of opposition quality.
Liverpool have found the matchup with Real Madrid tough over the best part of a decade, holding a 0-1-4 record against them across their past five. However, only one of those losses has come at Anfield which has been an absolute fortress in recent years. Liverpool are also in blistering form in the UCL this season and should be winning this at a decent price.
Inter Milan vs FC Porto
Giuseppe Meazza, Thursday 7am (AEDT)
Inter Milan navigated their way through an extremely tough Group C to progress through to the last 16. They finished behind Bayern Munich and ahead of Barcelona in the three-horse race. The 3x Champions League winners are aiming to reach the quarterfinals for the first time since the 2010-11 season.
FC Porto’s Champions League campaign got off to a shaky start when they lost their opening two games, but they quickly gathered themselves to reel off four wins in a row and finish on top of Group B. Porte are 2x Champions League winners and have reached the quarterfinals twice in their last five attempts.
Despite having less success in the Champions League than their opponents, Inter Milan will start the first leg of this R16 tie as the odds-on favourites. They’ve been excellent at home both domestically and in the UCL this season and should be winning this off that form.
RB Leipzig vs Manchester City
Red Bull Arena, Thursday 7am (AEDT)
RB Leipzig missed out on the knockout stage of the Champions League last season but made amends this season with their second placed finish in Group F. They finished only one point behind Real Madrid and this was despite losing their opening two games of the group.
Manchester City have been a powerhouse in the Premier League for a number of seasons now but have somewhat underperformed in the Champions League. However, they rolled through Group G this campaign when going undefeated, and remain one of the favourites to take out the whole competition.
Manchester City banged in seven goals in two games against RB Leipzig in the UCL two seasons ago and remain the superior outfit in 2023. Anything other than a City win would be a surprise, regardless of them being the travelling team on Thursday morning.
