The UEFA Champions League continues this week with another great slate of games. There are just 16 teams remaining in the competition and that will be whittled down to just eight over the next few weeks. Check out our full preview and betting tips for the key games in Matchday 7 below.
UEFA Champions League Matchday 7 Betting Tips
Atletico Madrid vs Chelsea
Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
Chelsea have been in some solid form of late, going undefeated in their last eight games and winning six of them through the Premier League and FA Cup. They could only muster a 1-1 draw at Southampton on the weekend, but look good on the injury front heading into this week’s clash with Atletico, with only defender Thiago Silva currently ruled out of the game.
While Madrid will no doubt be giving 100% here, it will be hard for them to have one eye back on the domestic competition, where they currently sit in top spot, leading their cross town rivals in Real Madrid by three points with a game in hand. They did, however, snap a seven game undefeated streak when they went down to Levante 0-2 early on Sunday morning.
Madrid start as slight favourites here, which you have to respect given their form in the La Liga this season. They have racked up a 9-2-1 record through 12 home games in the La Liga while the Blues have been just average on the road in the Premier League, maintaining a 6-3-4 record away from Stamford Bridge. Back the Spanish side to get the job done here.
Lazio vs Bayern Munich
Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
The other Wednesday morning matchup sees German giant Bayern Munich squaring off against Lazio on the road from 7am. The German side racked up 16 points and a +13 goal difference through the six games in the group stage of the Champions League, putting them at the top of the relative table. They sit atop the German Bundesliga table with a 15-4-3 record through 22 games but they are coming off a 2-1 loss at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt in their last game.
There’s no doubt that Lazio aren’t on the level of Bayern Munich and they will start as massive underdogs for this clash. If they were to ever claim a big scalp, it could be here though, as the Germans will be without a host of players through injury. Costa, Kouassi, Nubel, Pavard, Tillman and Tolisso are already ruled out of the game while Gnarby and Muller are both in doubt.
Regardless of the injuries, we feel like the German side should be too strong here. They have never played against Lazio in competition, but the Italian side currently sit in fifth place in the Serie A with just a 13-4-6 record. Back Bayern to win convincingly away from home.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Manchester City
Thursday 7am (AEDT)
Manchester City have been in scintillating form in the EPL and currently sit atop the table with a massive 10 point lead over their nearest rivals. They have not dropped a single point in their last 18 games games spanning across three different competitions in the Premier League, EFL Cup and the FA Cup. They are on the road in Germany for their UCL clash Thursday morning but still start as strong favourites.
Monchengladbach have struggled in the Bundesliga so far this season, going just 8-9-5 through their first 22 games to sit in eighth place on the table. They are winless in their last four Bundesliga games and their record against Manchester City isn’t fantastic.
The German side has won just one of six games against Manchester City and that win came in the Europa League all the way back in 1979. They have played four Champions League games since the 2015 season and Manchester City has a dominant 3-1-0 record with a goal difference of 11-4 in those games. Back them to record a comfortable win here.
